CURE SICK HEADACHE, WITATION IS THE SINCEREST THE THE DAILY JUNE 26, A TEST ! L4YOU Tux political corruption in Prince Eds ward Island is, just now, a bye-vord al! over Canada. Everyone has heard of the trick played Mr. Wise; Pineau scandal ; know whether or not the people of this Province are in agreement with the politi-~ cians who have made this Province 80 widely notorious—whetber or nota was jority can be found to approve of the Farquharson trick and the Pineau trea- son? The first question we hear on the cars and on the steamers is concerning the ‘political *corraptioa reported to be rampent here. What is the Island going to do about it? And jthe anewer of every resident who isaoxious for his country’s good eharacter, ie “ Wait unsi] the next electien.” The question ie forthwith to be brought home to the electors of Weet River, Rustico, North River, Milton, etc. If the government candidate should be elected, it will at once be said that the people of the Island are as bad as the politicians guilty of the effences which have made their Province notorieus throughout the length and breadth of Camada. The character of the peopleof the Province is thus in the by the Government upon everyone knows about the aud everyone wants to FORM OF FLATTERY.” =| The best proof that WINARD’S LINIMENT =} has extraordinary merits, and is in good repute with the public, is, that iTIS EXTENSIVELY IMITAT- ED. ‘he imitations resemble the genuine rticle in appearance only. We bave again tothank Mr. Alexander Martia, whose timely thoughtfuloe’s has secured amendments to the bill for con- eolidating and amending the law relating to the election of members of the House of Commons, which will reader the law wore applicable to Prince Edward Island and more intelligible to electora. Mr. Martin’s smendments were all accepted by the House of Commoas. It is now provided that the Clerk of the Crownin Chancery shall, immediately after the issue of the writ o” election, t:anemit to the returning officers in thie province, be- asdeaa eufficient number of votera’ lists and acopy of the electione law, “ one copy of the Franchise Act, 1898.” Besides this, the instructions to returning officers are to include, for Prince Eiward Ieland, “such sections of the Provincial Jaw as relate tothe quilification of voters, and shal! also contain the oaths reqnired to be taken by seciions 65, 66 and 67 of thie Act, bsving made them app'icable tu ‘he Electors io Prince Ejward I-land are also to be notified “re elections being held.” garding the qua) fication of vo ers as re- quired to be posted under the Provincia) law.” It wiil readily be seen that theee emendments, secured by Mr. Martin, are practically important to the election cffi cers and the electors of this province. a PROHIBITION AGAIN The ,Chrietian Guardian, of Toronto, speaks of the Pineau~Farqubarsou-Cl ub probibitory as & measure “abso.utely prohibiting ” the eale of liquor, and aida that** great praise is given Premier Farquharson by the tem perance peozle of the province.” The Toronto Guardian has evidently taken ite cue from its Charlottetown namesake, and is therefore not so well infermed upon this point as it ought tu be. The Toronto publication has apparentiv not read the letter of Mr. Johu Anderson, President of ‘he Temperance Alliance, wherein it is pointed out that so far fromthe probibition being absolute the very otj-ctof the bil] has beea defeated by the Government. The Toronto publication is also wrong when it says the bill foes into effect at the expira- tion of the half-year’s license. The half- year’s license expires next December, and the bill does not become law until June. The Alliance wished the prohibitory law they submitted to gointo effect in De- cember;but the Government wanted “blood money” for’ another six months and refused the request. The Charlottetown Guardian, whith is familiar with the'facte, we bave set forth, republishes the Tor- onto Guardian’s statement without a werd of explanation or correction ! They had been considering & plan of escape, which com prised uot oaly their own freedom, bt the forci- hie seizure of President Kruger. That -uch a scheme w4s feasible you #*)]I un- derstand when I tell you that there were only 70 guarde left in charge of the prisoners. One of the first things that our men did was toextract the pins from the two Maxim gnos, thus rendering them useless. A number of men were told off to be ready when the opp rtunity present- ed itself of overpowering the gnarde, for which purpose stolen lengths of rope were hidden away in the tente. Our men discovered tbat there were 350 Mauser rifles and plenty of ammunition stored in a house ia Church Street, and these it was intended to seize the moment there were tidings of the approach from the vorth of an expected force under Colenel Nicholson. The men thus armed were to surround the president’s house and hav- ing captured his honor and cut the tele. graph wire were to escape by rail across the Portaguese frontier. However, all the prisoners were unexpectedly removed to Waterval, andas the burghers com- menced to return from the laagers at the front theelaborate and boldly-conceived plam had to be abandoned. Bananas Cure Drink Habit. f—--— (Self-Culture Magazine.) =. For some reason as yet unknown, or at least to meny unexplained or defectly diagnosed, s regular diet of bananas will take aray and de: troy all desire for intoxi- catiug | quore, and this, to such a degree that it may be called “the temperance plant.” There seams ‘o be a natural antipathy anitgonism between the banaua aod the alconolic liquors or drinking ata vice. One cannot use both, and the banana is so much the s'tronger thatin nine cases out of ten (personally I have never known a single exception) it soon drives out the drivk habit. It is not thatdrinking gives a man a distaste for eatiog bananas, he eats them readi!y and with aralisb, but that under ordinary circumstances eating bananas brings a distaste for the liquor asa crav- ing beverage. Physicians find it necess ary to warn all new comers notto take them together, since fatal reeults ever promptly follow ano over-indulgence in the two at the same time. om + This Clock is a Wonder, Joseph Jenson, a clockmaker, of Rich - mond, Uteh, hse just completed ao inter- e-ting clock, which, besides striking the nours, halves and quarters and showing the phases of the muon, tells what time it isin every city inthe world.
