MARCELZLTL jTOCK QUOTA TIONS r Morning Stock Letter Qeodvod over Pltiield and Co's Private Wire) NIW YORIQd March‘ ‘ind-The mgopcan news oes no ow a pest deal oi’ change. Germany has accepted a bid ior the League of Nations on her terms, while France hears she will insist on hcr wrms and it currently looks as though nothing definite will be accomplished. We would eXPQct the market today to be irregularly firm. Some earnings statements published this morning are rather good. Official estimate oi the Soc- ony Vacuum earnings for 1935 is 7i cents a share against 76 cents the previous year. Texas Guii Sul- phur reported 81.94 against $1.31, Colombian Carbon $5.56 against $8.03. Skelly Oil $2.16 against '30 cents. Although some stocks may continue their advance today, it is very probable that before the middle oi the week there will be some secondary selling again but it the industrial average can hold above the lows oi Friday it would be a rather good performance. be- cause it stopped at a rather good place. We would lcok ior a con- linuaticn oi strength in ‘oils, ster- ling products and still think Ibews has a good chance oi recovery. NEW YORK. March 17—Eurpoe took a ‘much more cheerful ,view oi the Rhineland Saturday and this change oi feeling was immed- iately reflected in our stock mar- ket. The news in the papers this morning, however, is not as cheer- iul but later despatches indicate Germany has interpreted the meaning o1 one word differently irom France and the change oi this one word, which is explained in the news put the situation in a better light again. The London market so far, however, is report- ed to be irregular. Unless the news changes much for the worse the European situation should grad- ually lose stock market signifi- cance here and we should return to a consideration oi our domes- tic trade news which will again be the. chiei stock market factor. . This favorable is enough in con- nection with other iactors such as the continued ease oi money and the proposed tax laws to put stocks higher. Consequently ii early this week stocks are depressed to any extent because oi the European situation we believe they should be picked up again. Through the weakness oi~ last week several stocks stood out as abi to gain ground despite general weakness. The more important oi these was S. O. of New Jersey, in iact this stock acted so well that switching from other oils to it was fairly heavy. Jersey looks as though it will work higher and its strength should be felt by strength in other oils. Oi all the other market leaders, General Motors seems the safest speculation at present time.
