It includes 151 villages, with a population of 152,15H This is supposed to comprise the Anaka- palle field, but the Taluk adjoining us on the North, with a population of 191,291, is scarcely ever touched by the Gospel mfs- senger. Anakapalle town, a growing commer- cial centre, with a population of 20,(lD is the head-quarters of the division of terri- tory we call Taluk. It is also the head- quarters of our work for Christ in this section of the Telugu country. Here we have our mission house and chapel, and from this centre we tour and tent and preach among the villages. e This is the newest of our mission fields, the opening of which, dates back only two therefore, that we have plenty of room and that our work is pioneer in the strictest sense of the term. In addition to the above, however, we have charge of the work on the wide Nar- sapatnane field, which has been without a resident missionary since Mr. Barrow's death six years ago. It will be seen your prayers- A PEBP Ar oUB. Psnrsnromzns. The following interesting letter from ` right on the highway and quite near the Magistrates court and the Municipal offices. People who come to court have to wait out on the road till they are called. They usually gather in groups under the trees by the roadside in front of our chapel. This brings them right up to our church door. At Bi-st they crowd around » the door, look in and talk, talk, talk, in anything but omild tones, but would not come in. Their presence at the church door was not helpful to the few worship- pers withtu. but it was hopeful. We were glad to have them come to our door to see. Even if they did not come in or permit themselves to hear much. The second year some few would venture ln, make remlsrks, ask questions and move on. Now near the end of the third year, they sometimes till our little chapel, but those who come are nearly all out casts. As far as we are concerned, the poor pariah or out caste, is as welcome as the proud Brahmin, but no one can ersuade them to sit down at the same time under the same roof. A few days ago some high caste people came in and sat down near the door. A few minutes later some outcaste women invited by one of our Christians, came in, and as there was no place at the door they were led up to the front. But they no sooner sat down than the cast.: people got up and walked out grumbling as they went. The idea of outcasts and outcast 9 women at that, being allowed not only to come into the place they had honored with their presence, but actually to sit 5118 bound with ammiion *md l1‘0°”'“a down in front of them was more than they most unpromising comhrn Ltion of con- ditions-inertia, ignorance, dangerou helplessness. These are the condition could stand. S Sonic of the people will attend chapel 3 (Continued on Third page.) Un Her F ee!
