Mr. James Simpson occupied the chair while an interesting 'program was carried out, including addresses by Rev. A. Sterling of Clifton and the chairman. The offering for missions amounted to eighty-seven dollars. THE sad news was received VVednesday of the death of Mr. Angus Allan Mac- Pherson,a young man twenty years of age, and son of Alexander MacPherson, Esq. Kinross.Tlie sad event occurred at Baird’s Spur, Montana., U.S. A.,where the deceas- ed was employed in a lumber mill. Full particulars are not yet to handandnothing is known beyond the fact that he was accidentally killed while at his daily em- ployment. He was a general favorite and an exemplary and industrious young man whose death is keenly felt by all who had the pleasure of his acquaintance. THE entertainment and Pie Social which was held in Uigg Hall on Thursday, Feb. 15th. was s grand success. Notwithstand- ing the inclemency of the weather, and the unfavorable state of the roads, the hall was filled to its utmost capacity. A capital program was rendered, theriiirst being an address by Rev. A. J. McNeill. Miss Jessie R. Mclieod presided at the organ. The chorus by the Choir of Sleigh- ing Serenade, and, I’_se Gwine Back to Dixie were spiritedly rendered, while the solo by Mr. Moore was capitally given,he being encored. The recitation by Miss Amy Carver’ displayed considerable abil- _ ity as an elocutionist. A. dri “Thei auty and power of words.” The writer gave us example of the derivation of many words in common u_se,' showing how they repres- ented nnd described actions. He also made a strong plea for retaining the old* orthography giving as his reason, that by the adoption of phonetic spelling, we would lose much of the beauty and mean- ing of our language---A very lively discus- sion followed the reading of the paper which was participated in by Walter Simpson, Rev. W'. H. Warren of Bedeque, Rev. Major McIntosh, G. W. Simpson J. C. Clark and the Chairman Arthur Simpson. The speakers all complimented the writer on the excellence of his paper and the amount of inf Jrmation afforded _by it. Exception was taken by the first speaker to the writer’s view with respect to phonetic spelling, he arguing that a change in that direction was desirable and was indeed coming---and had been coming, not as a revolution but rather as evolution as that was the usual -way for all reforms to come about. Program for next meeting will be a newspaper, Walter Simpson as its editor with a large staff of contributors. No doubt this will be an interesting meeting. _ _ ,__ vw 1.* _1 _' _ |: Given Upto Die i ...by_Two--orsg Tliehilrl Doeierl|selDr.6hsn_’sln_ve _1 F0Olal\1|Slv`ol\loYeeI||Ll¢y’l|-lb- _ 1 pi-. “Amost remarkable case has some n my hands of late and has fnllgfconvineed meofthmwonderfnl power of - C|_l§$U'l__ Nerve Foodoverdisensesofthenerves. - H d_ fs h og _ 1° A ygung who WIS ifelwdi for QVGQ I ears for i 1 b two doctors was ;';ggp¢°_dieiP_kSg1 ca'.r)ii`e to me, and on careful examination.
