She is working on a scholarship grant- ed by the Women's Missionary Society of the United Church of Canada. At the completion of her course she will return to Seoul to teach in the University there. She is a graduate of Seoul National University and has done two years of post-graduate work in biochemistry before coming to Canada. Missvliyu is the eldest of a family of four boys and two girls. Her brother is at present taking a post-graduate course in political science at the University of Tokyo. In 1950 when the Communists invaded southern Korea. Miss Ryu was a student at the University there and her's was one of many families that could not escape. For a long time she lived in an under- ground shelter. Eventually she was able to make her way to Pusan on the southern tip of the penin- suls. "The orphan children in Korea present one of the greatest prob- lems in Korea today." said Miss Ryu. "Many of them are roaming the streets begging for food. No one knows who their parents are." Miss Ryu is anxious to return tome to relieve some of the suf- fering of her people. Miss Ryu was completely over- awedt with the vastness of this country and its unlimited resour- ces.
