On Wednesday ee 4th Regiment of Canadian Artillery, consisting of the taree rural companies in camp and the two city companies which had» drilled at local headq iarters, was inspected at Victoria Park by Major River-, R.U. A., of Quebec. The day was fine and the forenoon was devoted to the Georgetown, Souris and Montague companes. Their marching, wheeling, manual and firing exercises were excellent, showing great care and aptitude ou the part of the men as well as careful training on the part of their efficers. These companies, on their arrival! incamp, had many recruits who in the twelve days’ drill were now looking quite soldierly. In the afternoon as the clock was striking three, punctual to the minute, Capisin H. M. Davison marched upon the field at the head of his veteraus, No. 1 company —and they are number one in every particular,—and no doubt about it. As they marched upoa the field in perfect alignment and regular etep, this maguificent company recieved many compliments. So also did No. few minutes Jaier, with Capian fF. W.L. ¥ oore in command, marched with military precision upon the field 10 quietly measure swords with their popular riva's; for it must be understcol that the contest for supremacy is between these two fine companies. They were at orce taken in charge by Major Rivers, the inspecting officer, and p.t through a series of evolutions in compaay drill, manual and firing «xercises, etc., erc., ali of which, to an OnJooker, were performed with the utmost precision. The companies were then marched to the drill shed where each company furnished two detachments for drill upon the 40- pourder B. L. guns and two for the 64-pounder M. L. guns. Here the men acquitted themselves in their usual efficient menoer. The Artillery Band, under the leadership of Bandmaster Worth, was on the field and enlivened the proeeedings. Thev were also inspected avd pronounced O.K. Yesterday—the. glorious first— the two 40-pounder B. L. guns were taken over to tue Kinlock range. Here, under command of Lt.-Culonel Montizam bert, R.C.A., who acted as umpire, the five companies had the usual target practice. ihe weather was unfavorable, but we understand the bovs sent the heavy mis- siles to the mark with wonderfal precisicn. and reported “range found” ina truly military mann¢ Lieut. E. McDougall R. L, acted as range officer. The infa.try were also inspected by Lieut -Col. Moore, D. O. C,, Wednesday end Thursday, who, we understand, was very much pleased with the efficiency of the grand old 82nd and its band. NUTES. Lieut.-Col. Montizambert arrived on his tour of inspecting Wednesday evening. Sgt. Major J. S. Bridgeford, who was present last year, was drill instructor for the artillery. The boys are alwaye glad to see Bridgeford. Sgt.
