OF DRUIDISM IN|) THE HILLS REVIVAL WELSH ( London Daily Tek raph, Jan, 15.) The inhabitants of Pontybridd were on Suadsy night startled by flames the top of a hill near the residence of the well-known Dr. Price, who claims to represent the Druids and dresses in their It was bruited ubroad that the doctor was engaged in cremating the body of an iniant, hundreds of inhabitants gathered around him. Popular indignation was intense, bet nobody dared to iotertere,as the doctor threatened to sheot the first ove} whodidso. The body of the child was | jo a barrel haif filled with paraftine oil, and flames shot upto a great height. | Dr. Price we firss observed chanting the supposed Druidicel incan- tations. Atlength the constable sgized on ancient Costume soon and } 5, Woen bim, trom behind, the fire was extin- guished, and the churred body of the, infant was discovered, and, with Dy. | Price, taken to the police station, great | difficulty experienced in preventing the crowd trom lynehing him. Yesterday morning he was taken before the stipen- diary “and remanded till to-morrow. The inguez ‘ton the infant takes plac e| to-day. From the well known enthus-| iasm of Dr. Price in alli that pertains | to Druidism it is supposed he was dis—| posing of the body” ac or ding to Dru-| idicai rites. The child’s birth was never registered, its mother baving being fined for non-registratica. The! death also’ was not registered, the | doctor’s views on sceial ethics being | peculiar as his costume, which consists of fox-skin cap with tail for tassel,| white tunic, and green trousers with, arlet stripes. The Doctor is well known in connection with Gersedd meeting at the Kistedfeddon. Hitherto popular sympathy has been in his favor but this last escapade has ceused much indignation in Ponty pri idd and neigh- borhood. Dr. Price has been a mem- ber of the medical profession fully half a century, and bas been known as an advocate of Druidism and a decided believer ip crematiod. He has, it is understood, expressed a wish that when he dies his tody shall be burned, and has had an oven built at his house for this purpose. ee A Floating Theatre. Over thirteen years ago the Chapman | family, well-known on the Pacific coast, had u floating theatre on the Missis- sippi river. Uncle George Chapman aud wife were fond of relating stories oftheir experievce in their floating plzy-house. Mrs. Chapman often asserted that the happiest days of -her life were spent in the floating theatre. Among other things she related that on one occasion, while the play of Hamlet was in progress,an actor playirg the part of Polonius, who was waiting his cue to go upon the stage, made use of his spare moment in angling. He had just gota famous bite when he was called to the stage, upon which he rap, bolding his line behind him in his hand. Presently that part was reached in which Hamlet says, ‘It is backed like a weasel,” replied Polonius. “Or like a whale?” questions Hamlet. “Very much like a whale,” returned Polonius. As he pronounced these words the actor felt that he had hooeked his game, and, suddenly giving his whole attention to his line, he hauled upon the stage, be- fore the eyes of the astonished audience, a famous cat-tich, ull alive and kicking. The fish brought down the house and also Hamlet, to whom the landing of the semblance o! a whole was an inci- dent most unex pected.— Virginia ( Nev.)
