It is the natural conseqnence of an increasing population, an expanding Commerce, and of the enlarged production of an industrious and energetic people. Ineredible as it may seem, until the year 1555, there never was a bank established in this Island; in that year, under the pressnre of a similar uecessity, the Bank of Prince Edward Island was called into existence; and while it has facilitated the trede and commercial business gene- rally, it bas largely contributed to the develope- ment of the resources of the Country, and ite results are supposed to have been satisfactory to the Share- holders, having for some years past paid them an annual dividend of ten per cent. The increase in the population since the year 1855, the large addition % our trade and ecommerce, the increasing Kevenue, the breadth of arable land cleared and cultivated, the growing increase of farming stock, the augmented export of grain and agricultural produce of all kinds, have rendered further Banking operations in this Island absolutely necessary. It uppears from the census of 1860, and from other authentic sources, that in the preceding five years the increase in the population of this Island wae 9.361 persons; increase of breadth of land under cultivation 45,000 acres ; increase iu the quantity of roots and cereals exported 842,000 bush. REVIEWS AND NGTICES, “To be your own counsel or your own doctor, en- tails risks that have become proverbial to a degree Sus- picion begets irresulution, and where there is no eon- fidence good results seldom follow. Medical books are a fie d for the faculty alone, and the public act wisely in refraining from their study. ‘* Driak deep the uninformed mind, listeuing to its own apprehen sions is oftener ready ty imagine than use its cool judgment. here is ove class of medical lore, hew- ever, that stands in a position somewhat exceptional to our remark, and which treats on disorders and irregularities in which morality is offenued. For this reason the patient two often sulfers in secret, o: pursucs in ignorance practices thet daily bring him into a more hopeless condition for waut of iriendly dvice. To such we recommend a perusal of the ‘Medical Adviser’ of Walter De Ko.s, M.D, ot London, an established Physician, gradyate and licentiate of all the regular institutions of London ind Paris; ond whe has made nervous disorders and their baneful origin his particular study, rnd obtain- ed sucb a practice in this branch of therapeutics. as qualifies him to be a gafe and competent adviser.— County Chronicle, May 7th, 1561. “the MEDICAL ADVISER, by Warren De Roos, M. D., for the class of diseasos upon which it treats is undoubtedly the best and most soundly practical bouk which bas come wader our notice The author is aman of most enlarged experience.” —Derby Telegraph, Jane 29th, 1861. To those who eontemplate marriage its perusal is especially recommended. —The kn wiedge it imparts must come some time, and happy they who do net | possess it too late. —Cure is certain in every curable | case, and few indeed are they which are net so.— | [t is caleulated to effect a complete revolution in the treatment of these complaints.—Simple aud inex pensive, every sufferer may cure himself speedily, privately, and at the least pussible cost. From long practical observation of the treatment pursued in the mest famous lnetitations of this coun- try and the continent, for those diseases referred ty in the above work, the Proprietor has had somewhat unusual facilities fur acquiring that unitorm success which has hitherto eharacterized his practice, in | which the distressing consequences resulting trom the injurious employment of mercury, capivi, sar- suparilla, and similar dangerous medicines are en- tirely obviated. Lasting benefit in these cases can only be reasonably expected at the hands of those who devote their chief sttention to such diseases; and te such only can confidence be safely extended. Dr. De R. refers with pride to tae numbers he has_ been instrumental in restoring to health and happi- ness, whilst to all who need such aid he offers every assurance of speedy restoration. Foreign Kesipenrs can be successfully treated by correspondence,on sending the detail of their cases, with a Bank note or Bill on a London bouse for £5 or £10, in order that a package of medicines to meet the exigencies of the case, may be sent out by next mail, thus avoiding the protracted sufferiag and unnecessary joss of valuable time, which must uther- wise occur. This medicine strengthens the vitality of the whole system, gives energy to tae muscles and nerves, thus speedily removes nervous complaints, reaovates the unpaired powers of life, and invigorates the’ most shattered constitution. For skia eruptions, sore throat, pains in the bones, and all those diseases in which mercury, sa:saparilla, &c. are tuo often em- ployed in vain, to the serious detriment of health, its surprising efficacy has only to Le tested to be ap- preciated. Unlike the host of pernicious quackeries whith boast of vegetable ingredients, the LIFE MEDI- CINES are purely and solely vegetable; and contain neither Mercury nor Antimony wor Arsenic wor ang vtber mineral, in any furm whatever. They are en tirely composed of extracts from rare and powerful plants, the virtues of which, though leng known to several Indian tribes, and recently tu sume eminent pharmacentical chemists, a ¢ altogether unkvown to the ignorant pretenders to wedleal svience ; and were never before administered in so bap.aly eflicacions a combination. The first operation is to loosen from the cowte of the stumach and bowels the variousimpum: ities and crudi- ties constantly settling round them; and to remove the hardened faces whiet sullect in the convolu- tious of the small intestines. Other mevicines only partially cleanse these, and leave such collected masses behind as to produce habitual Costiveness with ail its train of evile, or sudden Diarrbes with ite imminep dangers, This fact is well-known to all regular anatumists who examine the human bowels aiter death; and hence theprejudices if these well informed men against the quach medj- cines of the age. The second effect of the VEGE- TABLE LIFE MEDICINES is to cleanse the kid neys and the bladder; and, by this menus, the liver aud lungs, the bealthiul section of which entirely depends upon the regularity of the urinary organs, The blood, which takes its red color trom the ageney ef the liver and lungs, belcre it pasves into the heart, being thus puritied by them, aud nourished by tood coming trom a cloan stomach, courses freely through the veins, ropows every part of the system, and triumphantly mounts the bauner of hewith in the blooming cheek. COSTIV ENESS, by cleansing the whole length of the intestines with asulventprocess, and withoul vio- lence; all violent purges leave the bowols costive within two days. DIARRH@A and CHOLERA, by removing the sharp acrid tluids by which these complaints are oe casioned, and by prowoting the lubricative sceretion of the mucnous membrane, FEVEKS of all kinds, by restoring the blood toa regular circulation, through the process of perspi- ration in such cases, and the thorough solutivn of all iutestinal obstruction io others. The Lire Mepicixes have been known to cure Rheumatism permanently in three weeks, and (out in balf that time, by removing local inflammation from the muscles and ligaments of the joints. Dropsies of all kinds, by freeing and strengthen- ing the kidneys and bladder; they operate most de- lighttally ou these important orgaces, dod hence they have ever been found a certain remedy for the worst cases of Gravel. Also Worms, by dislodging from the turnings of the bowels the slimy watter to which these creatures adhere. Asthma and Consumption, by relieving the ait vessels of the lungs from the wucous which even slight colds will occasion, and which, it not removed, becomes hardened, and produces those dreadful dis- euses. Scurny, Ulcers and Inveterate Sores, by the periert purity which these LIFE MEDICINES give w the blood, and all the humors.
