In Memoriam o. {Enron George Roderick MacLeod, 3.50., former assistant chief engineer of the City of Montreal and well. known for man years as a railwa engineer with e old Grand Trun Railway in Montreal and Toronto, died suddenly on Monday at his home, 4056 Trafalgar Road, in his 73rd year. Born at Uigg. Prince Edward Island, Mr. MacLeod was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Norman MacLeod. He was educated at the Uigg Grammar School and Prince of Wales College, before being graduated from McGill University. He began his engineering career as assistant superintendent at Mc- Gill College Observatory in i897. and became assistant engineer of the Grtand Trunk Railway in Mont- real ln 1099. Mr. MacLeod became resident engineer of the Grand Trunk Railway here in 190i. and was appointed secretory to the vice president in i902. After spending two years with the reconnaissance surveying department, Mr. Mac- Iood became an assistant to the‘ vice-president: in 1905. For a short period, he was divisional engineer of the Grand Trunk Railway in Toronto and left there to became assistant engineer with the Great Northern Railway at. St. Patti, Minn. Mr. lvtacLeod was assistan. ‘sec- retary of the Canadian Society of Civil Engineers in 1908, and be- came managing engineer of the McGulgan Construction Company, Toronto. from 1909 until 1913. For the next two years, he was engin- eer of railwa a for the City of Montreal, an between 1915 and 1018 was super-intending engineer of the sewer department as well as engineer of the city's railways. He became chief cnginner of the technical service of the city in 1918, and remained in that. posit- ion until 1929. when he was 1p- pointed assistant chief engineer of the City of Montrail. He resigned as assistant chief engineer in 1938. For the last two years of the first Great War, Mr. MacLcod was also secretary to the chairman of the Canadian Wai- Mission and Imperial Munitions Board. Wash- ington, D. C. During 1919 and 1920 he was treasurer- of the University Settlement of Montreal. and presi- dent; of that organization for the next two years. Mr. MacLeod was a member of the Council of the Engineering Institute of Canada. for at: yen-a. before he was made vice~preoident during 1929 and 030.
