This question was put forth to students of U.P.E.I. on Sep- tember 30th, 1992 in light of recent occurrences on campus: What do you think the University should do about the re- ported sexual assault on campus, and do you think it has done enough so far? They should be very open to the media... It should be given to trained authorities immediately. male student Arts IV The incident should have been reported earlier to the proper authorities who would have been better equipped to address the problem. It is a complex situation and I certainly hope it does not hurt the reputation of the school. The guilty parties should be punished and made public in hopes that this will curb people from such gross misconducts against women on this campus. Steven Shoemaker Arts II Stephen Shoemaker It doesn’t seem they (the university) are willing to do too much. Maybe it should be handed to the R.C.M.P.. I think it would help to accelerate things if the victim identified herself. Marie Wigmore Arts IIT I think maybe if Campus Security would worry less about its own prestige and allow the R.C.M.P to step in, things would be done more efficiently. Mike Caissie Science II I feel there should have been decisions made much earlier to involve an outside police force -- the R.C.M.P. or City Police -- in the investigation. I believe the attackers names should be fully disclosed. Hopefully this will not create a division between men and women on campus. It should not be men against women/women against men, but rather right versus wrong. Marie Wigmore Lindsay Linkletter Arts I Mike Cassie Page 11 UPEI X-P RESS October 8, 1992
