activity at Carleton at present. About
40 cars of ballast is being strewn

big crew of mechanics and working

SUCCESSFUL ,AFFAlR.-Bonsaw
Presbyterian Church held a S. S. plc-
nic and tea on' Wednesday, Aug. 23rd,
on the beautiful grounds of Mr. J. J.
Macheodadjolning the church. Not-
withstanding the fact that the after-
noon was showsry and the evening
dull and cloudy, quite a few people
met and thoroughly enjoyed them-
selves. The thanks of the committee
is tendered to all, especially those of
other denominations who helped to
make the evening a success. ` The
net proceeds amounted to $44.41.
RECOVERING.--The last issue of
the Maple Leaf, published in Oak-
land, Cal., says: The many friends
of Mr. Oliver Muttart of Suinmerside,
P. E. island, who has been spending
the past several months in San Fran-
cisco, will be pleased to learn that he
is rapidly recovering from his recent
illness. Mr. Muttart is at present re-
siding at the Madison Park Apart-
ments in Oakland, and is enjoying the
baliuy___air and sunshine on the east
side-of the bay, while at the 'same
time meeting many new Island
friends. Mr. Muttart, before remov-
ing to Snmmerside, lived for many
years in Augustine Cove.

Prince' Edward island, visited Carle-
ton 'Polnt Thursday and made a care-
ful inspection of the new harbor and
docks which is soon to become the
captain’s_ home port. Supt. Thos. H.
Bassett, for-_ the Roger Miller Co.,
placed a boat at the captain’s disposal
and showed him over every inch of
the work.
This was the captain‘s first visit to
Carl-xt.-n. und lie was highly pleased
with the new harbor and surroundings.
