Finlayson. who was reported on Saturday as having fallen ln action on the battlefields of France. is well known to many in Ottawa. I-le is a brother of Mr. George IE. Finlayson, of the Finance Depamment. and son of Captain Al- lan Finlayson, Charlottetown, P. E. I. He enlisted with a British Columbia Highland battalion and was given a stripe with the rank of lance-corp- oral before sailing overseas. He was one of the crack shots of the batta- llon. The late Edgar Finlayson was killed instantly by the bursting of a shell .in the' act of moving a Lewis gutn with two others on November L . DREDGE HAULED _ UP.-Dredge No. 11 (the Prince Edward) ie now being hauled up at the Marine dock, Charlottetown, for the winter. Four quadrupe steel blocks and wires were used in' hauling ber out of the water. The dredge's own power and bolstering drum were used as a pur- chase instead of capetans ss form- erly. This is the il-ret tim 9 this dredge has been hauled up since the ponttoon was placed under it three y‘ear's‘ ago. Captain MacDonald *statue that _the dredge was practically fit for noth- ing but scrap until this was done. As the craft lacked- buoyancy, being so low. in the water that at times he/r decks was awash and the water pour- ed through the chain holds. The por- toon's covering of 1% inch plank will neéd to be replaced next season as the worms have made a perfect network of hoes through it all the way into the poisoned tar paper covering which ithey have left intact. The scowe, tugs and other Government material have been hauled up in the same dock as the dredge. MacLean of this city in writing a friend says_ that be is now in England on -furlough after almost two years in the thick of the iight. He has been transferred and is now with the 14th Canadian Battalion, , Grenade Sec- tion and says that 'bombing ' it "some job” for when any trouble arises the bombers are the first to be called to answer the enemy. Pte. MacLean has been working with the grenades since last spring and was in charge of the bomb throwers in the company for some time, although 'he did not throw_ many himself. In speaking of his furlough which he is thoroughly enjoying, Pte. MacLean says he spent a day at Folkstone with the boys of the 105th and Capt.
