Student Union Events Grunions Main Event Review By Angela Matheson The starting fling of the university year turned out to be packed and successful. Over five hundred students partic it up to the music of the Grunions sponsored by the Student Union and hosted by Labatts Blue. The band began three to four years ago as high school friends getting together. Since then, they have climbed the scales performing mainly in Aulantic Canada, usually in the various universities in the region. Three of the band members attend Dalhousie University and the Nova Scotia College of Arts and Culture. Their talent impressed everyone with songs ranging from "Red Wine" to "Funky Cold Medina." Students who were late found a long line-up and at least fifty were turned down. Last Thursday night was an ideal time for being with friends, dancing knee to knee, having a few drinks, and meeting lots of new and "long time haven’t scen" faces. September 13th, 1990 Hard Rock Miners The Hard Rock Miners formed as a busking band in the summer of 1987 for the sole purpose of having fun - and instantly became a big hit on the Vancouver music scene. Bolstered by both popular and critical acclaim, in addition to the prospect of a cold winter, the Hard rock Miners moved their show into such notable clubs as the Commodore, the Town Pump, and the Railway Club, where they have now become mainstays. Indeed the Hard Rock Miners, with their dynamic stage/street show, have contributed a great deal to the- folk-roots-dance revival on Canada’s West Coast. This Thursday, September 13th the Mincrs take to the stage at the Barn where they should feel right at home. Don’t forget to get your advance tickets early (available Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday between 9-4 at the S.U. Office in the barn). Tickets are $5.00 or $4.00 with your student saver card. See you there! Lisa Chandler Vice President Operations 12
