Lamont a native 0f Prince Ed- vard Island and former pastor of ihh. People's Church (Church of licoilarld) in Charlottetown, is {den from a recent issue cf the algarry News, published at Alex- lia, Ontario: Addressing the Young People cf punvcgan- last Sunday night. Rev. p. M. Lamom prflpooed the above yubjcct for a New Year's essage. since it happens, he said, that Xmas and New Year fell this win- ter on sabbath, let us bestow some , sabbaiic reflection on the meaning of the flight of gime. When. for the first time, you date your letter "i933". you feel as if you hlld suddenly fldded one more year to your age and a year h) the age of the world. It is almost start- ling to realize that some of you young people here may on some distant day write the date "Z000". 'l‘ilere are now people living in Blansarry older than you would be in A. D. 2000. We rrist not of course stress the mere zeros, as did the Church of the tenth century: when chrlstians wens frantic ex- ‘parting the end of the World, in fr» n. 1000. Still it may be signifi- iani that a. Fleming pr9di¢tg m. illlcnniuim in sooo. Flermins. be ll “noted, foretold the French Revolu- tion, about one hundred years be~ w hand. No dabble: in prophecy ,_ accomplished such a feat, be: fora or gince. lhoughts like these prompt us to, ask: “Can we foretell history". Is our distracted world heading for peace and a Golden Ase. or for the Down of Armageddon? Is there any heavenly voice to enlighten us? The answer is: Look to the Oraclq that foretold coirccily the First Coming af Christ, and the breaking forth of the christian era. The greatest "all" 0f the Scripture upon the aandid reader is its power to fore- tell history. The Hon. Winston Churchill, in his recent book "Thoughts and Advllltlllf-S" makes the astounding statement, when praising the pomp. Rl‘ of Tcnnysons prophecies in "Lockslcy Hall,” that "we may “m1 H" scrlnture in vain for "all Drecise and ‘swiftly vindicated forecasts of the future." O hear "118 vc Hebrew seelsi" Hear this, Isaiah and Daniel! To say nothing csiis Himself. surely you may “"~' challenge the literature of BENEFIT DANCE of PROVINCIAL SANATORIUM one FELLOWS’ HALL Thursday Evening, Jail.‘ 12, 1933 REFRESHMENTS place alonnide of Scripture, any comparable marvel in prdphecy, Mr. Lamont in marshalling instan- ces of the most notable Bible pre- dictions. singled out two. Ingenious ovasions, he said, have been agn- rlovod to "account for" Bible pre- dictions and fulfilment. But here are two marvels. I select them be- cause they are simple. Any school- boy can verify them. And only one possesed with a. disbelieving devil can evade them. First, Christ said oi‘ the woman who anointed Him, Just before His death that her act, linked with the Gospel, would be commemorat- ed thioughou the world. What! So seemingly trivial an act to be proclaimed beyond Palestine. Nay beyond the Roman Empire. How absurd the saying seemed. Think how far removed from that scene wero the howling forests of Can- ada. Yet after 1900 years we can.‘ join with the world in witnessing. This little story may be read today in every church between our two oceans. Again, this incidental prediction was linked on go a far greater pro- phecy. Think of Christ standing there with a. motley gathering of peasants and telling them that his words forsooth would yet be pro- claimed to earth's remotest bounds. I; it nothing to you all ye who pass by that this prediction whispered amid an uproarious world, is being fulfilled today by an army of tell million Bibles swarming annually over the world. All these thoughts are but in- troductory. Our main question is. Does this wedicting Oracle func- tion to-day? Does it at least help us form an outline of the coming great events of history? students of prophecy are all ready Lo say Yes. ‘There are two opposite -vistas of the future. One forecasts the inter- national skies lowering with mutual distrust and war preparations. The other lights up a world of universal peace followed by the millennial Age. lvlr. Lamont promised to set forth in his next address reasons for his belief in the former an! more unpopular vista; foreboding wars and the fore-told Apostasy. Miss Lilian McKenzie, Miss Kathleen Legun, and splendid selections were-given by the Cana- dian Legion Band. ‘ As usual Prince and Kings Colin- ties gave us their hearty oo-opcra- tion and assistance by sending de- legates and providing successful entertainment on their allotted dates, August 24th and 25th; This helped to maintain the Inter-Pro- vincial aspect of the Exhibition and we are deeply grateful for their co-operatlon.
