Eli Perkins on Children. To-day I sat in a car seat on the Lake Shore read, behind a_ pale, care—worn lady, who was taking a little boy from Cleveland to Ashtabula. As the little bey was of a very inquiring mind, and as everything seemed to attract bis attention, | could not help listening to} some of his questions. ‘What is that, Auntie,” pointing to a heap of corn, “QO, that’s corn, dear,” answered the care-worn lady. “What is corn, Auntie?’’ “Why, corn is corn. dear.” ‘But what is it made of?” “Why, corn is made of water, and air.” “Who makes it?” “God makes it, deer.” ‘Does he make it in the day-time or in the night?’ *In both, dear.’ ‘And Sundays?” “Yes, ali the time.” “Ain't it wicked to make corn Sunday, Auntie?” “O, Idon’t know. Freddy—that’s a dear! tired.” After remaining quieta moment, little Freddy broke out: “Where do stars Auntie?” “7 don’t know ; nobody knows,” “Did the moon lay ,em?’’ “Yes, [ guess so,”replied the wicked lady. *Can the moon lay eggs, to ?” “I suppose so. Dont bother me?” A short silence, when Freddy broke out again : “Panny Mason says oxin is a owl, Auntie ; is they?” “O, perhaps so !” “I think a whale could don’t you, Auntie?” “QO, yes—I guess so !” said the shame- less woman. *Did you ever see a whale on his nest ?” “O; I guess so!’ “Where?” *“Q, I don’t know! Do keep still, Freddy!” And the lady gave a sigh and looked out of the window. A moment afterwards Freddy looked ont of the window and saw a man milk- ing & cow. “What is he doing to the cow, Auntie ?” “Milking her, dear.” “Where do they put the milk in, Auntie ?”’ “Oh ! in her mouth !” _ “Did you ever see them put the milk in ?” “QO, yes!” “Where ?” “I mein ‘no, Freddy, you must be quiet—I’m getting crazy !” “What makes you crazy. Auntie?” “Oh dear! you ask so many ques- tions.” The little boy seemed to be puzzled and thoughtful a moment; but soon his curiosity got the better of him, and, ss the car passed a pasture in which were a sheep and a lamb, he asked :— “Where do !ambe come from,Auntie ?” “Oh! from the old sheep. The old sheep has them.” ‘Can little boys have lambs?” “Certainly. I'll let you have alamb Freddy, when you get home.”’ ‘Will it hurt me, Auntie !” “What hurt you—the lamb ?” “No ; will it hurt me to have it ?” “Q Freddy, do stop! You ask such foolish questions. I’m all worn out.” “Did you ever havea lamb, Auntie?” Freddy, stop! Don’i you speak again for half an hour!’ Then the poor, worn out woman sigh- ed and leaned her aching head on the back of the forward seat, while Freddy busied himself placing his mouth against the window and soliequized in & sing-song tone: “Mary had a little lamb ! ‘Sheep had a little lamb! ‘“*Auntie had a little lamb! “Ob, Auntie! Auntie!’’ ‘What is it, Freddy?” asked the poor woman, waking up. “Did you ever see a fly eat sugar?” “Yes, dear.” “Where ?” “Freddy! Sit down on that seat and be still,er I'll shake yous I won't be tormented to death. Now, not another word!” And the lady, pointing her finger sharply at the little boy, as if she was going to stick it through him. If she had been a wicked man she would have sworn; and still, notwithstanding we have eight million little boys like Freddy in the United States, each one causing more or less profanity. He has been a great sufferer from Scrof- ula, and the inclosed letter will tell you what a marvelous eifoct Ayer's Sarsaparilla has had in his case. I think his blood must have contained the humor for at least ten years; but it did not show, except in the form of ascrofulous gore on the wrist, until about five years ago. From a few spots whieh ap- pearod at that time, it gradually spread so as to cover his entire body. I assure you he was terribly afflicted, and an object of pity, when he began using your medicine. Now, there are few men of lis age who enjoy as good bheaith as he has. 1 could easily name fifty persous who would testify to the facis in his case, Yours truly, W. M, Paivcirs.” “It is botha FROM THE FATHER: picnic ena a duty for me to state to you the benefit I have derived from the use of Ayer's Sarsaparilla. Six months ago ] was completely covered with a terrible humor and scrofulous sores. The humor caused an incessant and intolerable itching, and the skin cracked so as to cause the blood to flow in many places whenever I moved, My sufferings were great, and my life a burden, I cominenced the use of the Ss RSAPARILLA in April last, and have used it regularly since that time, My condition began to improve at once. The sores have all healed, and I feel perfectly well in every respect — being now able to do a good day’s work, although 73 years of age. Many inquire what has wrought such a cure in my case, and I tell them, as J have here tried to tell you, AYER’S SARSAPARILLA. Glover, Vt., Oct. 21, 1882.
