f ‘(fi {cont'd from' page 3) C. OFFICER ' } Anne MaCBNen ‘Hi! My name is Amie bcEwen and I am a secmd par Arts stumnt. I am . ing for the positim of i u 'catims Officer 'm affairs. I feel I ‘ quite capable for this itim because I am on homore Class President. am presently working m .- SIN newspaper doing 1 out leadlines, and any d jobs to help out, d I have a lot of terest and enthusiasm . ards my Student Union. Also I am m the idenoe committee at . chard Hall and I was the Winter Carnival 'ttee too as rtiser. I really want this itim because I am d feel I can equally add the managing of the airs of the UPEISU you who don't know - powers and duties of ‘ Camtunicatims Officer or she is responsible . r all the intemal and '1 mal advertising of I arm very interested .Student affairs at the ' _ Presently I am a in Bemadine Hall, or she is also responsible nether of the Intercolleg- iate Lady Panthers Field - Hockey and Ice Hockey teams. Previous experience in the field of communicatims includes my summer job of 1978 - liaison officer between the Northwest Territories and Prince Edward Island, a freshman 111 at the Student Union radio station CIMN, and member of the Bernadine Hall House Committee . . jg Shelly Pep er I hmestlv feel the vear 1979-80 will be a great one at UPEI, and I would very much like to be a part of it as Ootmmica— tions Officer - doing my - bit to make it a most successful year for everyone at UPEI. '0 (MPTR (1|.ER I'm enrolled in the Arts program and-am currently in my third year majoring in English and am presently employed as assistant head bartender in the Panther Lounge. 'Ihis is my- fourth year at university, having previously attended Queen's where I was involved with football and was employed in a local bar as a doorman, waiter, bartender as well as working m extensive renovations to the bar for a year after I left school. Rabin Claw During my time away from school I've run a small cmstructim business from which I gained experience in supervising fellow workers. In additim to which I've worked as a cook in a small dining room. I feel that my past experience at these various jd)s makes me well qualified for the positim of comptroller. 'Ihe comptroller is responsible for the proper-q and facilities either omed or operated by the Student THE UPEI SUN, FEB. 15, 1979, page 5 ' [Inim but as the facilities outside of the Barn fall under the Communicatims Officer it is the operatims of the Barn that are his central concern. Fran my positim in the bar this year I've had a great deal of exposure to both the strengths and weaknesses of the Student Union. me of the major weaknesses has been lack of use of the building outside of Wednesday's Coffee Shop and, of course, the Pigs crL'I‘hursdays. Other events have been poorly attended. The Barn's location at the edge of campus plays a large part in this but measures must be taken to create for the Barn a more central role in campus life. Perhaps entertainment more often in the Panther lounge or a greater access to the activities for those of the sturhnt body who choose not to drink would remedy this situatim. I feel that my past work experience and my time spent here thus far qualifies me for the . positim of comptroller and'that next week you will give me your support. vooth xyofiyauaul ea 2 / Billy Willis My name is Billy Willis. I am currently a senior enrolled in economics. I intend to continLe my. studies here next year. I have been here three and half years. wring this time I have taken a wide variety of courses and gained a wide field of knowledge. I admit that my past participatim in the Student Unim was limited to voting, but now that I have more time I intend to increase my partici- patim. I feel my status in seeking the corptroller positim is justifiable. I am aware of the carptroll— er's duties as being respmsible for the physical assets of the Student Unim. Also, I am aware of 'the work of our near past comptroller and I feel that this is an asset. If elected I will cbal with my positim to the best of my knowledge. I feel I cannot promise anything. The last thing I have to say is that I hope all stumnts will vote on electim day as it is their right and concerns them directly. / Peter Wilsm The job of the cmptroller is prcbably the least knom about positim on the Student Unim executive but me of the most important. His or her job is to over- see the running of all functions in the Student [him building as well as the cperatims of the Campus Police, bartenders and Barn staff. It must also be kept in mind that the Cmptroller must work with the executive and Council in making both major and minor policy decisions that will affect all time stuients within this university. I have been a member or the Campus Police for two years and am presently finishing my term as Chief. Became of this positim I feel I am able to communicate with people, [mchrstand their prdylems and able to provide solutims to these problems. The Barn is supposed to be tie meeting place for the students and even though it is on the edge of catpus this should not be a deterrent. Now that "we the smden " run the Barn I feel we should use it to our advantage by having more events here m campus. By providing this service we can hopefully attract the students back to the campus instead of losing them to entertainment elsewhere. Although the Barn has continued to operate there are some progressive changes I want to make. TREASURER ' Patricia Rossiter has been declared Treasurer of the UPEI Student Union for _ 79 - 80 due to the withdrawl of John Neville's candidacy.
