In the report ol Deputy Minister Gnu rdeciu the follow- ing passage occurs, which will be of local interest. We quote: _ The Charlottetown Board of Trade and the Local Government sent men to assist. in cutting out the Stanley, butyfthey rendered very little assistance. The S‘unlcy was not very far from the edge of the ice in which she was caught when the men sent hy the Board of Trade ar- rived. The dynamite taken bythe mon to blast out the Stanley was of very little help. The mild weather and the united crews of thc steamers Minto and Stanley enabled the steamer with her own po wer to get clear of the packed ice. This is not very il xtbcriniz to the Local Government, the llaard of Trade and the workers they seat to assist the steamers in their distress. But Mr. Gzurdcnu re- turns to the subject in a later piirt of his report by way of cmplllisls and adds-1 Ou the lrith March thc Stanley, through the efforts of the crews of both steamer s, assisted by mild we ether. was released from her ice-bound position and towed the Miilto into Picton harbor, where the i\Iinto`_~ propeller llliides were rcncwci. So it was the crews that did it all, and the much talked of aid from the Govern- ment and li isrd of Trade was of very little as‘°l<>°1<- si <1 IW l°.:._°_:'h:x.f:liiiT¥:oi;".z.l".‘;°:i;:‘li.f”’i;=;; ~-Mix.-fi iiiiiiiiiiw __ ids ~ '~ ~- g sou( for ,A few days lunge,-_ A good time 1,0 tnj.
