ISLAND HOSPITAL. | The prospectus of a new Prince Elward | Island Hospital in commemoration of the ‘ Queen’s Diamond Jubilee bas been banded Tue Examiner. The prospectus eets forth the excellent work that has been done by the Prince Edward [sland Hos- pital since its establishment in 1983, and points out the necessity for extending its usefulness by establishing in coynectiaqn @ home for aurses, a maternity wad and » ward for patients sulering from the more infectious Jiseases. Referenge is made to the offer of Rev. Dr. Breckei fo the public througi: the trustees. It is pointed out tust Dr. Brecken has offered as @ ftee gift hie former family residence, together with the fifteen acres of land in connection there- with, upon the simple condition that a new Prince Edward Island Hospital shal! be built thereon within a reasonable time and that the residence shall be used as an ad- junet thereto and be known as the “Phebe Brecken Home” in memary of his mother. The property, which is located on the Lower 8t. Peter’s Road near the exhibi- tion grounds, is valued at $5000. The trustees and medical staff of the Hospital believe that there is everything in the offer of Dr. Brecken to commend it tothe public, and are of the opinion that no time should be lost in carryiog out the idea set forth in the offer. Messrs. Harris aud Chappell, two well- known architects, have made plans and estimates of the proposed Hospital, and basing their judgment upon these plans and estimates the truatees believe that a building affording all the accommodation aecessary may be constructed for $12,000, and that ata further cost of $2,000 the buildings now upor the premises may be 80 reconstructed and enlarged as to afford provision fer the nurses home and the maternity and isolation wards. The trustees propose to make an immediate effort to raise the $14,000 nec- essary for the work, and citizens of all classes and creeds will be afforded an opportun ty of promoting the scheme. The trustees are to be commended for the prompt action they have taken in the matter, and Dr. Brecken is entitled to the thanks of the community for his valuable and thoughtful gift. It is hoped that the acheme will meet with the encouragement it deserves.
