I'm the Editor-in-chief of a university paper and I wouldn't feel happy spending a year here and not getting into a little trau- ble. I'm thinking alang the lire of funny-pranks-kind-of-trouble. Not run the Cadre into the ground trouble. And maybe I'll get sore letters to the Hiitor alang the way. How cool would that be? Pretty damned cool if you ask me" (Editorial #1, sept.15/03) . This ignoramifiously silly article you see dancing crooked in front of you is in reply to Biitorial 6: Same pecole love to bitch, a very organized, democratic and Thomas Lloyd. It is the reasm why most definitely in "the nature of the jdo" and it "was why I (Thomas) was hired last year, and given editorial prerogative". This reasoning can be found - live add vilovant! - in last week's Cadre, Oct. 29,2003. Since I plan qm attenpting ca zany eyeballs sort of hmesty here, I might as well egilain to yu a that I'm ane of those ridicurasilly » humen persons - but of course this S may already be understood - who > loves to bitch. I'm ane of those = "ignorant people who have no idea 5 of what is actually dae from day 5 to day," ane of those critics who = are "speaking way out of their area ~ Of knowledge" (editorial #6, Sock. 29/03) - and I'd very mich like Sto speak with the President of © Cenadian University Press, who assured Thomas that this was cor- aA Tomfoolery In The Monkey Tree The accused Editor-in-Chief. Please note large bottle of hard liquor and very unprofessional hat. rect. I'm sure he knows exactly What he's talking about, awd is mt - I repeat, mot - speaking wy at of his area of knowledge. What a hunch-backed monkey, eh Thomas!! | Alas my fellow manmals, there are problems within the inner workings of the Cadre. But what really makes me - and per- haps others too - giggle forth foam- ing and foaming layers of bloody spit about these inner problems, is not sinply thet they exist - like monkeys exist - but that when they are brought down from the tree for surveillance, they are sinply dis- missed as mad banana bitching without any real reasming. This is falser than a super false falsity, yu see - there actually are, you urer- stand, very existing reasons as to why a number of Cadre employees and volunteers are getting fed up with the imer workings of the paper and threatening to quit. It should be possible that these prob- lems be worked out without that happening. However, these prob- lems must first be taken seriously. The three major complaints from involved members of the Cadre stand as such; that it is disoroen- ized, undemocratic, and umprofes - sional. And hoestly! I am shocked and appalled, for after reading Thomas's editorial I never would have thought such charges might be possible! And charges holding very existing reasos at that!?! Je. suis confusé like ume mongoloid bananamana hanging off oe of the outer branches of the tree! In this article I will attempt to clarify some of these problems and sug- gest ways in which they might be dealt with. I would also like to address some of the comments and "explanations" made by Thomas in his editocial. First off, the cette is disor- ganized. It is slagpy, add hes ro directio - there is mo basic set-up that the paper even attenpts to fol - low (ie - 2 pages news, 2 arts add entertainment, 1 sports, 1 review, etc...), and there is no coweptim of what the cadre might depict as it's role as a student newspaper, which I believe to be of fundanen- tal importance. What is the role of a student-run newspaper as the major form of media communica - tion (or "mediated quasi-interac - tion") in a university setting? I believe this to be a qestim which deserves consideration from not qnly those involved with creating the peper, but also frm all of those who read it, or even attend university. So far this question has gone unanswered, and even unasked. One can see the nuclear mass of blatant organization in not thinking about just such a ques- tion! Golly-gee. Furthermore, Thomas brushes the complaints off simply as having had an employee who "personally didn't like (him)", which - hm... - in no way accounts for these problers and is also mt completely true. I believe that it is, atally, a mieal dislike due to a relaticnal break-up, Thoms, that you are referring to? Blah! Monkey mouths! Go and loose your howls on some other branch and stop using the Cadre to attack the morale of your personal opponent whom you used to date. Ard really, come m, stop escalat - ing the situation because it has real consequences on other real mam- mals. Sweetie please? Notice the strident professionalism to be found in such a scemario as this? Whoa! I know it's intense but Continued on next page Travel The World & Get Paid to: Teach English Overseas!
