_.continued from Page 10 I don’t want to sound oo pessimistic about this movie. It did have some hice touches. For in- tance, the suburban home f the parents is perfect down to the oak pan- Jliing and Readers’ Digests n the bookshelf. Simi- arly, Patty, Joe, and Bongo ive in an,old 2. story house hat looks rather large from he outside, but the inside as purposely crowded and oiled to get the poverty dea across. Leading up to the best hart of the movie is a brief, but well placed scene, turing which Bongo calls oe, “Dad”. Joe imme- Hiately catches him on it; he scene really shows how uch confusion Bongo is iving in. The best part bf the movie is held back or the end. The audience ell absolutely silent dur- ng the mother - daughter onfrontation scene. That icene really pushes Jett’s icting ability to the limit. bhe accomplishes an incred- ble feat - she plays the part hccurately without screw- ng up. The mother, Row- lands, also does a fantas- Hic job with her part where he finally loses some of er stereotypical deranged housewife lines. The producers wanted o change the ultra - conser- ative nice-boy image that Micheal J. is so famous for. _Throughout the movie, his efforts to get the family back together cast him far- ther and farther into his typical style. He comes across as a deeply car- ing, rock ’n roll brother to Patty. Perhaps he is a star in the movie because he buffers the goodness of his mother against the harsh- ness of Patty. One of the best tests for a movie is the watch test. During a good movie, one generally can’t get the urge (or the time) to look at his watch. I just had to look during the second hour. The movie isn’t well paced. It’s rarely fast paced - and when it’s slow; it’s really slow. I don’t know what else to say. The PR peo- ple see this as just another Michael J. Fox movie, but I cannot stress how much it isn’t. This is his first dra- matic role where he doesn’t play someone younger than himself. Even though Jett is the movie’s real star, it lacks something ‘extra to make her outshine every- ones’s expectations of Fox. Overall, I have’to rate this movie at 5.0 on a scale of ten. Sure you-can go see it, but I wouldn’t guarantee that you'll want to go back for mores ANS fYveuLD HAVE Cor Away wim IT If (T Had NoT BEEN FOR You MEDDLING KIDS AND YOUR boc! v - SopY-D00 SAVES EUROPE Looking for a place where they turned the clock back to the days when men were men, and women were women, and Rock was Rock n Roll!
