The idea of having to find a job for the summer or a career is weighing on the shoulders of many. Have no fear, though, the NGR is here! The National Graduate Register (NGR) is available year round, so there is still time to place your resume on the Internet for the summer. This service may not guarantee you ajobright away, but it will give your resume global exposure and one day it may lead to a job As was mentioned in earlier editions of the Cadre, the NGR services allow em- ployers to access the informa- tion within your ‘profile in an attempt to find a “match” fora future employee. In addition, you can apply directly to job postings that are currently available on the NGR in the “Employer Mailboxes” section. If you are graduating this year, it will be beneficial to enter your profile into the da- tabase so that you will have access to the internship pro- gram information. There are internships as well as other work experiences that may be in your field of study. One example of this is Experience Canada. Experience Canada of- fers a six month paid work experience reflecting your edu- cational background and field of interest. The ten month pro- gram oe with an intensive two week learning session, all expenses paid, in Ottawa. This session focuses on teamwork and problem solving. You will then be paired with a mentor who will offer professional advice. For more information on this program visit the NGR web site http:// ngr.schoolnet.ca . Remember that the NGR is available to all students and recent graduates (up to three with job hunt years after graduation). Your profile remains active as long as it is accessed on a regular basis, and your profile can be edited and changed at any time; nothing is set in stone. At the end of March, my contract with the National Graduate Register will be com- pleted so if you have any ques- tions regarding the NGR you can contact the Career Devel- opment Centre (located within Student Services).
