The fact that (Tana- dian contributions up to date exceed $85,000, representing a total of 343,680 packages of tobacco and cigarettes, is worthy of note. It speaks of‘the generosity of the public, but if these figures are compared with the number of men at the front, it will readily be seen how totally inadequate they are to meet the needs of the case. Smoking to the boys at the front is virtually a necessity and there are but few non-smokers. The total number of 343,680 packages divided between the 80,000 Canadians now at the from does not supply a very large number of packages of tobacco per man, when spread over a period of fourteen months. lf other efforts in this direction are added, even then the t al in d t supply is ot ly a equa e. as is proved abundantly by the letters we are constantly receiving. The llsi we give below has been supplied by Mr Francis lt. Jones, the Organizing Secretary of Canada’s To- bacco Fund, who will be glad to re- willlng to assist by taking collecting books, collecting boxes, etc. It is interesting to notice that the ions to provide tobacco for the over uearlv $55,000, contributed by the what can be done by the combined efforts of school children. Mr Jones is endeavouring to arrange a similar movement throughout the schools lu Canada and has already re- ceived generous assurances of support from many parts of the Dominion.
