MacKAY The death of John S, Macl(ayi of Stanley Bridge occurred on May 7 under tragic circumstanc- es. He was employed by the pos- tal department to deliver mail in the Breadalbane area and while he was snroute tto the post of- fice to pick up his mail. some part of his light wagon gave way making the horse bolt and throw- ing Mr. MacKay to the ground causing his death. John Sutherland MacKay was born at Hamilton, P.E.l.. the son of the late Kenneth MacKay and his wife. Melinda Jane Cohb. When very young. he moved with his parents to Margatc where he spent his boyhood days and where he is still kindly I membered. Tr were three other sons, Wal- lace, Daniel and Rudolph. A twin sister of Mr. MacKays died in infancy. The only one now living is Rudolph of Kingston. Ontari who was able to be present at the funeral. Mr. MacKay. who was in his seventy-second year at the time of his death. was widely known. He was a man for whom the meaning of life seemed clear and he was never one to become lost lll doubts or despair or become entangled iiifutiiities of speculat- Iun. For him li'c was the present and its purpose to do what the fifty brought forth. He lived without sham or pretense extend- inil the hearty hand-shake to all who came to his door and each one who passed his threshold was lnVlI.Sd to sit at his ever hospl. table table. in wltich he was sup- ported by his good wife, It is most certainly true that he was a good neighbor to which folks along his mail route can testify. He was ever ready to fetch small parcels and messages and do little turns to oblige far beyond his call of duty. And des- pite snow storms or muddy roads his Patrons always found him cheerful and reassuring. He 31. ways left the impression that his attention was fully turned upon their particular problem. Many who knew him best will remember his humor which had I way of expressing his common sense. He was quick to see a Joke and had a way of making a quick and uiiexpccted reply.
