MoLean’s reply to the Patriot is very much to the point. Really the Patriot ought not to have given credence to the statemeat of one of the Government’s paid heelers as against that ofa man of the character and standing of Mr. McLean. Mr. McLean was per ectly right and reasonable when be sud that but four to six carts could be used (to acs» vantage upon the three ,nsof narrow roadway noder repair at Newson’: well. It 1? 2dmiited (hat &@S Mapy as Lweive carts were upon the ground atthe public ex~ pense, and it is again asserted by Mr. Mc- Lean that no jess than sixteen were hired on the part of the Government. Jatrageous not at the Douglass electors, right unjustifiable, as this is, it is all extraordinary. To secure election of Dr. the peo- part, pot only at Neweon’s Hil! oiher of the Second Distriet of Queen’s. As to Mr. McLean’s direct charge of the attempted bribery of his farmers—we shall see whether or not the Patriot and left, have been bribed with ple’s money, which has, in great been literally thrown away but in many parts, will dare to deny it.
