O O O But the fight for the three- Province crown andthe glory that goes with it will begin in earnest on Tuesday morning when the 18- hole qualifying round will be fired. Members of the ‘ ,’ ship flight together with the oth- er flights start out on Wednesday morning and before the cham- pionship is decided around noon on Friday the big crowd of spec- tators expected should witness some stirring exhibitions of golf by the so-called weaker sex. O O O While outside the Province oom- petitors such as Miss Barbers Trites, Miss Carine Wilson and Mrs. Blair Gordon along with others will likely be installed as favorites to come through, the local club will have strong repre- sentatlon. In the past few years, the brand of golf being played by the ladies of the local club has improved considerably, not only among the older and tested mem- bers but also among the younger members. O O Not mentioning any names, but it is s known fact that local members have been ‘playing a consistent brand of golf in the weeks preceding this tournament and should any one of them re- tain the fine form they have been exhibiting lt is easily possible that they will put up a stout battle for top honors. They have done it in the past and this week play- ing on their home course they should prove to be tougher op- ponents than ever. O O O Irrespective of what happens in the future harness racing fans bereabouts will not forget the sensational harness racing duels they have already witnessed here this season in both day snd night meetings. O O ' In this writer's memory at least former seasons never crammed in such nerve-tingling competition, upset victories snd all round rec- ing performances that have‘ been witnessed here ever since the season opened. snd if the Pro- vince never deserved the oogno- men of "The Kentucky of Csn- ada" before, it certainly deserves it now. O O O Saturday night's program. billed as being sn outstanding one, was even better than that. In ell nine _ heats it was battles every inch of the way and as s result the fans sew finishes that, to sdopt s well- known phrase, "one dreams about but seldom sees." Right to the wire the outcome was in doubt with usually four and Ave horses in the running and in most cases the Godfrey photo finish comers had to be used to split them spurt. O O O Racing of this sort "is bound to attract more and more fans snd that is exactly how it_ is turning out. The writer would say that Saturday night's crowd wu the largest of the season to date snd that they were well repaid for their attendance was well borne out by the many one remarks hesrd es they milled through the gates after the Anni hat. O O O The same can be slid of the Wednesday afternoon meetings. These too have been productive of the closest racing in years. Times may not be as fest ss those turned in previously but that fr being more than psid up for in the excitement. uncertainty snd bottles the evenly classified fields are waging every time they {eke the word. O O Old Home Week. now-less than s month sway, will probably be the biggest record-breaking one 1n history. Already s record entry list is assured; purses srs the largest ever offered snd with entries being attracted from s11 over the Dominion snd some ports of the United States, harness rec- ing followers can be assured of an action-packed, thrill-peeked period from August 15th to 10th inclusive. ____._._.._..._. The game, highlighted by the superb pitching of "Lefty" Mac- Aleer of the Abbies and “Joe" Bernard of the visitors, plus the fine fielding by“both teams, was in doubt up till the final out. Both had numerous chances to score but tight fielding foiled the chances. The Abbies left twelve runners stranded on the base- paths against the visitors‘ four. In their first turn at the plate Abbies gave indication that they were out to get revenge for their last pasting at the hands of the C. d: B. team as Charlie Ryan singled with two away.
