Probably the most amazing or overwhelming thing about being the President of SU is the time commitment. It is easy to believe you can fix any problem, real or imagined. Problems and difficulties ebb and flow like the tide, the trick is to work on the problems that have remained constant, and to fix the smaller ones as they come along. I believe that this year's council is going to be very good at answering new and challenging questions and concerns, and with the help of the executive I plan to work on those problems that have been plaguing SU for some time. Policies, procedures and of course the constitution need to be reviewed and reformed. A task that, with your help, will take the remainder of the school year to complete. I will also work towards a broader understanding of what it is Chris Burns a Union does and what services it provides to all : As students we have to realize that only two groups President pay for our education, us and everyone else (who pays taxes)! We all know we don't want to pay any more, and of course the average taxpayer doesn't want to either. We have to "sell" post secondary education and let people know what a huge impact this university has on the economy of the island and what the cultural and educational impacts are as well. In other words, we have to begin to prove to the taxpaying public what a great investment UPEI is, not only in terms of Wendy Venema a well-educated future citizenry, but also in terms of the immediate economic impact. We have to make people want VP Internal to pay for the privilege of having a University. If we keep putting out the small fires and work J onathan Sellers towards a better informed student body and a more efficiently Wendy Venema ees cnet nce Vite -Pisaidaut lnteveat functioning Student Union, it will have been a great year. VP Operations 3rd year Business Major Phone 566-0648 i My name is Jonathan Seller and I am currently the VP E-mail wvenema@upei.ca Operations at the Student Council. I will attempt to word this biography loosely to avoid sounding too much like a pageant My name is Wendy Venema and I am your Student Union VP contestant. The job of VPO is the regular booking of Internal. The reason I ran for this job is because I feel that the internal sub-organizations on campus are.a real asset to this university, and it is important for them to have a strong link to the Student Union. There are many important issues, such as student safety, that need to be made aware of and changed. Student voices are important because they are the key to everything that goes on around this university, and they need to be heard. My job duties consist of running any internal campaigns on campus, for example, there is a Sex, Drugs and Rock & Roll week coming up in October which will deal with drugs, alcohol and sexual awareness. Also, I am the liaison between the Student Union and the paper, the yearbook, and our student radio station. I sit on the Board of Directors for the Panther Prints, and attend weekly meetings with them as well as the yearbook. I also sit on the Department of Student Development committee, to address to them the concerns of students. Recently President Epperly, Chris Burns and I have decided on to meet bi-weekly to discuss important student issues that need to be addressed. If you have any concerns | you wish to discuss, please contact me any time. so.1equ@)sisnsdesent! ts entertainment, various committees, and overseeing the Panther Lounge, usually from a chair behind the bar. I was a bartender in the Panther Lounge for the past two years and wanted to do something else for my fourth year, so with a bit of reluctance I decided to run for office. After listening to students speak, (and slur), for a couple of years about what is right and what is wrong with the Barn, I felt like I had a firm grasp of what people think is fun and what is not. One major problem that was apparent was that the students wanted to go the Barn, but were not sure what was going on, and when it was actually taking place. I have tried to remedy this by placing more ads both on the radio and in the newspaper, (see back page), and through regular postings on the E-mail notice board. Due to our tiny budget I will not be able to have acts like 54-40 every week, but I hope you will find the entertainment for the year enjoyable. By all means give suggestions, constructive complaints, etc... My E-mail address is jseller@upei.ca. I will answer all mail. This job is a lot of work, and a lot of fun, but ultimately useless if the student body does not have good reasons to go to their own bar. Thanks for listening, and have a good year. “Fert as Seo ee Sibson tek cretorr 4 ob ee y JAW oj gaibaut anitiue of 2ovitsmitis dir madi
