He stressed that it is an as- sociation of all members con- nected with the electrical in. dustry with the object of in- creasing the standard of electric wiring and education the public in the use and safety of elec- tricity. Mr. Cameron said the league made a good start in 1958 on the .program of educating the public outside the industry and stated that this is a field in which ‘“‘we must look forward to increased activity.” The principal speaker said the most spectacular of the league’s activities has been the various promotions carried out last year and added that he* felt, “there is nothing like a Red Seal home with the Red Seal prominently displayed in front to boost, the cause of adequate wiring as well as the reputation of the electrical contractor concerned in the eyes of the public.” PROVIDES FIGURES . [Concerning resulis, he stated | as far as education and promo- tion are concerned these are intangible, they are hard to measure, but Mr. Cameron provided some figures which showed that during the first 11 months of 1958, with more figures yet to come from Sum- merside, there has been in the province 132 sérvices increased to 60 ampere capacity or 42'2 per cent of the changes com pared with 29 per cent in 1957. Mr. Cameron added that during the same period 42 chan- ges to 100 ampere service en- trance had ‘been effected, which represents 13%: per cent com. pared agains: a little over two per cent in 1957. Mr. Cameron. also provided many revealing statistics and concluded by stating that the league is opening a. way to- wards better living for the pub- lic and more abundant use of the magical medium of energy. on which we all depend. “If we as an industry can unite to raise our standards and our sites in supporting the Elec- tric Service League of P.E.I., we cannot fail to participate in the benefits of electrical living in our business.” Others who addressed the meeting briefly were Councillor Dr. H. Health Centre | SUMMERSIDE—The board of trustees of the Stewart Memor- ial Health Centre at Tyne Val- ley will start to make plans for the enlargement of the Health Centre to the full status of-a hospital. ; The trustees were assigned the task at a meeting of the re- presentative of the 21 communi- ties served by the centre held ew evening in Tyne Valley The proposal recei unaai- mous support from\ the 183 re- presentatives who attended to dis- cuss and formulate future oper- ational plans in view of hospital insurance plan which will likely be approved for P.E.I. at this session House. The trus' will give a report on their progress and present an estimated cost of the enlarge- ment at a meeting of the 21 communities in Tyne Valley, Feb. 16th. In discussing the report on P. E.I. hospitals the representatives opposed the removal of its clironi- cally ill patients from the com- munity as suggested by the re- port. It was felt that these pa- tients would be happier and more content to be close to the vicinity in which they had re- sided aad where visits from friends was a simple matter. The representatives decided to send a full report of their resolu- tions and opinions to the deputy minister of health. The deputy minister is also to be asked procedure to be follow- The centre is rated at eight beds but it is said to require 10 or more beds for present re- quirements. The building, in ad- dition to its‘ rooms for patients has also a case room, nursery, kitchen, and staff quarters. It is equipped with an x-ray ma- chine and an oxygen tent. Mrs. Vv. J. Campbell, secretary of the WMS gave a resume of the year’s work and resported that $215.45 had been received from dues, collections, special gifts and the thankoffering. Mrs. E. F. Kerr outlined the activities and projects of the Ladies’ Aid, chief of which was the purchase of a building to be used as a church hall and Sunday School room. A report of the Sunday School was read by Mrs. Basil Mat- thews. In commenting on this important part of the work, Mr. Garrett reminded the congre- gation that “The Sunday School of today is the church of tomor- row,” and urged parents to have their children attend re- gularly. The report of the Young Peo- ple’s Society, as prepared by Lorraine Campbell, showed this group to be progressing favor- ably. Cheque Case Is Adjourned For 3 Months SUMMERSIDE — A Summer- side man pleaded guilty to a charge of uttering a worthless cheque when he appeared in magistrate’s court here Tuesday morning Magistrate R.S. , oc. adjourned the case months for sentencing. The accused admitted paying Waldo Stewart for a truck tire with a $100 cheque that proved worthless when taken to the bank. The accused said he paid Mr. Stewart, the informant, $15 since the ‘cheque was found to be worthless. He said he would pay the remainder as soon as he found work. He\ said he was mar- ried, has four i and is married to a Summerside girl. A Carleton man was fined $20 and costs for possession of li- quor at a place other than his residence. The same fine was levied a Middleton man facing a similar charge. A Summerside man pleaded guilty to 32 offences’ under the Unemployment Insurance Act. He“was charged with drawing in- surance cheques while not re- porting his earnings from Janu- ary to August 1958. Evidence revealed the accused had been earning $55 per month as a janitor. He told the in- vestigating officer he thought he could earn up to $2 per day without reporting it. . He was ordered to pay $32.50 in fines.
