Brad'al‘bane, Emer- aid, a greater fall of hail accompany- ing it. The hail-stones in some eases were almost as large as marbles. At Bradalbane 37 panes 'of glass were broken n the Railway Station and at Emerald 16 -were broken. The agent nt Emerald reports that he had to shovel the hail from the station plat- form. Be- sides parcels for the usual battalions in France, comforts were sent to two new units; namely, the 2nd Can. Machine Gun Battalion in France and 17th Canadian Reserve Battalion. England. Ono parcel was also sent to a stranded Islander in the 3rd Can. Machine Gun Battalion and one to an oillcer in a hospital. Comforts sent overseas last year, during the same month were valued at $150.55. - BROOKLYN SCHOOL.-The semi- annual examlnatlons of the Brooklyn school were held on June 27 and were largely attended by parents and rate- payers. The pupils answered excep- tionally well rind showed ln every way that the best interests of education is the aim oi' their teacher Miss Cassie MacKinnon. The orderly discipline of the pupils in forming and retiring from their classes was very pronounc- ed. After the exams were over the pupils rendered an excellent program of songs and recitations following which they indulged in physical drill exercises which was probably the fea- ture of the afternoon. There is cer- tainly more to learn at school than to read and write and Miss MacKinnon is to be given credit for the excellent all-round educational standing of Brooklyn school at the present time.
