B., a few days ago before the most prominent members of the tire department. It was very satisfac. tory. The Sun says:—**The steam engine was placed at the foot of Simonds street, where the water supply is abundant. One end of the five hundred feet of hose was attached to the engine, the stretch heing laid along the inclined sidewalk leading up the Straight Shore; a cap was screwed on the other end of the hose, and when the steam gauge of the engine indicated 75 Ibs., Chiet John on gave the word ‘‘go ahead” The eugine waa started and the water forced up to a pressare of 230 Iba. to the square inch, the full capacity of the engige. This was repeated over and over again, Woen an examination of the hose was made, and it was found that no adr pof water had escaped from the entre length of 500 feet. Afterwards the cap was removed and the play ppe_ attached, which sent forth a beautifully emooth stream.
