Captain Douglas will Lnvestigate All Kinds (Halifax Herald.) The startling information has been ) elicited that Captain Bloomfield Douglas’ commission includes charges of every des- cription. Active political partizanship is but one of them. Neglect of duty, incivil- ity tothe public, errors of judgment, ib- competency, inutility of offices, etc., will probably all become questions for investi- gation. Months will be occupied in this province and P. KE. Island, Charges are multiplying like flakes of snow. The knowledge of Captain Douglas’ appoint- ment has operated like an invitation to all to serve to come forward and do their ut- most to sweep the civil service and public departments. Charges based on events ten years old have been presented. It is understood that the number of cases for investigation, which Captain Douglas at first sight estimated to be one hundred, have increased to one hundred and _ fifty and others are pouring in from all parts of the province, every fishing hamlet where there is a lighthouse or a fishery inspector furnishing its quota of cuarges. It is almost a certainty that the stream wil! be endless and the number will run up to many hundreds and perhaps thousands in the two provinces, necessitating perhaps the cancelling of the wide commission before the work is hardly more than eZ tered upon, Captain Douglas is to report upon the evidence in each case. Evidence will be received only uuder oath, Accused and accusers will be brought face to face. The accused may,if they wish, appear by couneel. The trials bid fair to produce one of the profoundest public sensations that this country has had for years. SOURIS NOTES, Business is rushing in this part of the Island. Thestores were not closed here on Thanksgiving day, and customers were pushing each other out of the way to be the first served at the counters. Several of our bartenders are rusticating in the country for the benefit of their health (or purse). Mr. Kiggan, bailiff, is doing the town. In default of peyment of a Scctt Act fine, Mr. Angus McDonald had a free drive to Georgetown on Tuesday to do two months with Logan. The skating on Souris West pond was very fair yesterday. Several of our young bloods wended their way there last even- ing to enjoy afew hours of exhilarating exercise. We are sorry to learn that our popular young barber, Mr. McEachern, is very ill with a severe cold. We trust that his illness will be of short duration. It ig not often tbat the barber is keeled up. Mr. Thos. Henry, contractor, has been unloading several schooners of late. Mr. Herb Squarebriggs left here on Tuesday morning for Montague where he will be employed for the coming winter. The members of the Souris Cornet Band are busy practising for rink. We are glad to hear that they are to make the old Furs, Dress Goods, Blankets Comforts and everything to be found in a first class dry eoods store, and our large buy ing facilities with spot cash puts the People’s Store in a position to offer the buyiug public Honest Goods at Hon- est Prices. The triumphs of Dodd’s Kidney Pilis bave been won in exactly such fights for life. People make mistakes, and jump to wrong conclusions ; doctors themselves don’t always know. It is much safer to take Dodd’s Kidney Pilla than to take chances. Of course these grave cases have simple beginnings, and that is the time thata single box prevents, which is better than curing.
