And so begins a new era in ranting... Seeing as the bulk of youth-oriented maritime radio stations arerunby- Maritime Broadcasting System, which has a decided- ly brown-nosed attitude towards Clear Channel, mar- itime: music-loving youth are greeted every Sunday morn- ing with the slurping and smacking of the creepy grand- father nobody wanted, Casey Kasem. Fortunately, thanks to his clone-with-a-rack Leeza Gibbons, I now know how many glasses of milk John Mayer drinks in a day. Buh. Paul Harvey, how about you Silence S shove it? Unfortunately, it is not the speech-impeded radio per- sonalities that make our radio stations utter garbage. Rather, it is shitty music that is to blame for crapping up the air- waves. I mean, maybe Roch Voisine is a real lady-killer in ounds Sweeter take "the rest of the story" and sional spurts where our radio stations show promise. CBC Radio 2's late-night Brave New Waves program regularly plays inventive new music, but isn't great for those of us who don't work the graveyard shift. Truro's Big Dog 100.9 has been known to put Radiohead, Foo Fighters, and regardless of genre. Does the Decent Radio Station merely exist in Plato's blessed realm of the forms? Can a radio station not be commercial and not suck? UPEI used to have a radio sta- tion, and then it disappeared due to campus politics or lack of funding or something. Its broadcast radius barely made I think the campus radio station should be resurrected. it to the school library, but Trois-RiviƩres, and the Theory of a Deadman dude has a nice moustache, but they sure as hell can't write a song. I know , musical tastes vary, but can't all reasonable people agree that Staind, Puddle of Mudd, and every other nu-metal band with a mis- spelled name sucks? I realize I have a bias towards alternative rock bands, genius of Hey | Ya as much as | the next Myron's patron. The point is, as intelligent listen- ers, we should demand decent music on a regular basis, dammit, it was something. I think the campus radio station should be resurrected. Ask people around here what hap- pened to it. Complain to our local radio stations. Ask them to give UPEI some regular airtime. There's a real lack of alternatives, and I don't know what else to do about it. If anyone cares about this, come talk to me.
