Fat Freddy This is the second in a series of installments reveal— ing the body of rules which govern the operation of the U.P.E.I. Student Union. Al- though perhaps not as enter— taining as Fat Freddy's Cat, it may be of worthy mention: copies of the Constitution may be picked up free of charge in the S.U. office Mon—Fri 9—5. U.P.E.I.S.U. Constitution Article 1 - Name The name of the organization shall be the University of Prince Edward Island Student Union Incorporated and may be kn0w in abbreviated form as the U.P.E.I.Student Union or U.P.E.I.S.U. (hereafter refer- red to as U.P.E.I.S.U.) Article 2 — Objectives The objectives of the U.P.Er I.S.U. are: a) to promote,direct and control student activities at the University of Prince Ed- ward Island. b) to promote unity and goodwill among its members. c) to advance the cause of higher leaning in Prince Ed- ward Island. | d) to afford a recognized means of communication and co-operation between the stu— dents and all organizations of the community at large. Article 3 - Operations The operations of the U.P.E.- I.S.U. are to be carried out chiefly at the University of. Prince Edward Island. Article 4 - Membership 1. There shall be three clas— ses of members in the U.P.E.— I.S.U.:"Active Members, Assoc- iate Members , and Honorary Mebers". ’ 2. The fOllowing persons shall ' be "Active Members": a) students who have reg- istered for instruction at , U.P.E.I. for at least three courses per semester and have paid the current Student Un— nion fees prescibed by the Council. 3. The following persons shall be "Associate Members": a) students who are reg- istered in less than three :ourses per semester and have paid the current Student Union fees prescibed by Council. b) students who are regis— tered for instruction in the first or second summer sessie ons and have paid the current Student Union dues prescibed by Council. 4. The following persons shall be "Honorary Members": a) all persons upon whom honorary membership may, from time to time, be conféred by; Council. _V e 5. Every member shall be eli— gflie to participate in the Intramural Schedule Can’t / activites of the U.P.E.I.S.U. Only active members shall have the right to vote or hold of— fice in any Union organization. 6. No member is empowered to ’ purchase in the name of the UP.E.I.S.U. or in any other way financially obligate the U.P.E.I.S.U. until sUch per— mission has been given by a meeting of the Council. 7. Membership (active or asso— ciate) in the Union shall cease:_ a) by a resolution of a 2/3 (two-thirds) majority of the Council acting on a reccomme— ndation of the Student Judi- cairy Committee. - b) by submitting a resig nation in writing which shall- be effective upon receipt by the Council Chairman. In case of resignation a member shall remain liable for payment of any assessment or any sum levi~ ed or which became payable to him by the corporation prior to such recipt or his resign— ation. Article 5 — Student Union Fees 1. The student union fees shall be determined and set by the Council each year in time to be published in the univer— sity Calendar. Article 6 — U.P.E.I.S.U. Council 1. The governing body Of the U2P.E.I.S.U. shall be the U.P.E.I.S.U. Article 7 — Powers and Duties of the U.P.E.I.S.U.Councfi 1. It shall be the duty of the Council to enactfformal reso- lutions governing the forma- tion and activites of the sub— organizations and the more or less permanet’activites of the U.P.E.I.S.U. unless otherwise stipulated in this Constitu— tion. “ 2. It Shall be the duty of the Council to provide for the ,expenditure of funds and gen- erally manage the affairs of the U.P.E.I.S.U. / 3. All other student organiz- ations, socities, associations and clubs, etC.
