lt is my painful duty to inform you
that your son Edward. while doing
his duty and sticking to his gun dur-
ing a bombardment two days ago.
was instantly killed. He suffered no
pain and died like a man at his post.
I feel his loss acutely myself as I am
also from P. E. l. and of the old 17th
that was. All of Ed’s effects have
been turned over to headquarters
and will be forwarded to you later.
l cannot tell you how sorry I am to
lose your son. Ho had been so opti-
mistic always. We huve no say in the
matter as we all take the same chanc-
