Clllll Slllllllil IIINNIEII ISIIIIII CHICAGO, Sept. 30.-The fifteen hundred or more scientists from all parts ot the United States, France, Germany, Belgium, Austria, Russia and the South American republics, who are in attendance at the third International Congress of Refrigera- tion which has been in session here for a week, are looking forward with somewhat mixed feelings to the big banquet to be given in their honor tonight. As a rule the only thing to be dreaded at n banquet are some of the speeches which seem to be the unavoidable concomitant on such oc- casions and which are apt seriously to interfere with the enjoyment, if not with the digestion, of the good things prepared for the fensters in the way of food. On this occasion, however, there is another cause, for misgivings. According to previous announcement every bit of the food to be served at the banquet tonight will be oi cold storage description and nothing will be used in the pre- paration of the banquet that has not been in cold storage for at least sev- en months. It is true that the scien- tists attending the congress are all ardent advocates of refrigeration but while preaching refrigeration is com- paratively simple and easy, it re- quires a considerable amount; of hero iam deliberately to sit. down nt. n banquet table and consume formid- able quantities of cold storage food. SECOND DAY OF ROADS CONGRESS. DET,P.OIT, Mich., Sept. 30.- To- day's program at the third annual opened its session here yesterday, was under the auspices of the Ameri- can Automobile Association. Na- tional sid and national highways were discussed by a number of PTO m`inent speakers and several mem- bers of the Lincoln Highway Coin- mission were among the speakers.
