D. lt ltonrns. ' ~ [com-ight, ions, hramutooo rms snooiotlou-l In the outline of last week we saw that chapters xxi and xxli bring before us the new heaven and earth, so what.- ever there may be in this lesson con- cerning our heavenly home, as the title indicates, it .is heaven in connection with earth, and part of it is heaven on earth, for the “ao death nor sorrow nor crying nor pain" of xxi, 4, and the “do more curse" of xxii, 8, must be earth and not heaven, tor these things never were in heaven, and there would be no sense in saying no more where there never was any. Then in xxl, 3, God comes down to dwell with men, but in heaven we go to dwell with God. As to the throne of God and the Lamb we know that, although H s throne is in heaven, He is also _ have a throne on earth at Jerusa- lem (Jer. iii, 17). Concerning the new so fully, which is to come down out of heaven from God and in the light ot which the nations of the earth are to walk, we read that the Lord God Al- mighty and the Lamb are the temple of it and the glory and the light of it (xxi, 22-24). Tho new earth of which these chap- ters tell us will be this planet puriiied by Dre as the earth before the deluge was purified by water (II Pet. iii, 5- th adversary nor evil occurrent (I Kings v, 4), because He who made all things in the beginning shall have made all things new (xxl, 5). It is our privilege, while we wait for this kingdom_ and live to hasten it, to antedate it in our individual exaerience. By nature are dead in sins and under the curse soon as we receive the Lord Je for mo" (Gal. iii, 13). _ So in our lite there comes a ti e when there is no more curse, and in stead of self being on the throne of our hearts Christ is on the throne, and we are new creatures, old things are passed away, all things are beco e i waters of this world ceases, and of Living Water (Jer. ii, 13; xvli, 13). the Waterot' Life. " ' It Christ is exithroncd in our hen we will desire above all things t smile of His approval, and even o faces will manifest that we are H His name written on our forehea (verse 3, 4). There no darkness come here we may walk, in the light a have continual fellowship and ever re- joice in the blood that cleanseth. Wo can hardly anticipate the reigning wit righteousness _we are said to reign life by Jesus Christ more than c we have, to my mind, a very clear insnifest in all Scripture. Jesus God. Three times in this chapter we have His "Behold, or surely I come quickly" (verses 7, 12, 20), and the la of these three is the vary last word we nestly we should be watching for Hi ward God is "waiting for His Bon from heaven" (I Thess. i, 10; Tit. ii, 13; Heb. ix 28). llerse 7 takes us back to and em- iiot simply read, but memorize and eat, blessing. This is not the first time that John fcll at the feet of his heavenly, visitor to worship (see chapter xix, 10), this time he is told that his friend from heaven is one of the prophets and that ln heaven they keep the sayings of this book, and ho is again admonished to Lord's words, “Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and Him only shalt thou serve" (Matt. iv, 10). In Dan. xii, 4, 9, the words were to be closed up and sealed till the time of the end, but here it is just the contrary (verse 10). When the end comes peo ple will continuous' the end finds them, unjust or filthy or righteous. I do not know in all Scripture any authority for believing that there may possibly bs any repentance after death for those who have heard the gospel in this life. Verso 12 points us tn the judgment seat of Christ and the rewards for serv- ice then to be given. Compare Rom. xlv, 10; II Cor. v, 10; I Cor. ill, 14, 15; _'Luka xlv, 14.
