Student writers can become eligible for $1000, $500, and $250 prizes in a writing competition co-sponsored by BOOK CITY bookstores and BOOKSIN CANADA magazine. The Toronto bookstore chain and the national book review magazine hope to en- courage and support future Canadian writers through these awards. In 1991, the first prizes in the BOOKS IN CANADA STUDENT WRITING AWARDS were won by Hannah Landecker, of Vancouver, and Alison Calder, of Saskatoon, out of more than 600 entries. This year, with the help of BOOK CITY, the number of prizes has been increased and the contest expanded to include community college as well as university students.
