Superintendent of the Experi- mental Station. Charlottetown. who was introduced by Mr. Bruce Mac- Laren, took as his subject. "This Land of Ours." After complimenting the Men's Drianizatlon for the excellent work they are doing and of the merits of such an organization as this, he said, this land df ours, Prince Ed- ward Island, which is comprised of 1,397,000 acres, consisting of 11.277 farms is one of the most beautiful parts of Canada. He said the soil in P. E. I. is not as rich as the soil is in some of the other provinces, but, as we have not manyl rocks, it is easily worked and al- though each year we spend $2.000,- 000 for fertilizer, yet we do not put back as much as is taken from the sail and in addition to this about 30 Der cent of ourland is sloped and therefore a large percentage is washed away. The soil nourishes all plant lifo and all human life so we must guard the land for those who come after us. The Experimental Farms in Canada are guardians of the sill and they will help each and all of you to protect it and help you to restore the soil fertility, be- cause when the soil is gone every- thing is gone. A hearty vote of thanks for his excellent address was moved by Mi. Balderson and seconded by Mr. Harry MacDougall and extend- ed to Mr. Parent by Mr. MacLaren. Part of the evening was spent in a sing-song. A quartet consisting of Messrs. J. A. MacLeod. H. A. Craswell. hfalcolm MacKinnon and Wen- dell Phillips gave several rendi- t:ons which were received with gzeat applause by those present.
