a this nation ronnisiiie run moss Mr. A. G. Hogan, President of Island Furriers Ltd, has just re- turned from a trip to the Upper Canadian Fur Centers and has gather- ed first hand information on the rising prices of raw furs. During me year 1954 fur prices took a very sudden drop. In fact these prices were so low that they were comparable to 1939 values. This left the fur market in a very unhealthy state as professional fur Lrapperg found it unprofitable to spend their time trapping. This naturally caused I very noticeable shortage of pelts on the market. With prices being so low manufact can and retailers enjoyed one 01 11.. greatest vol selling seasons in years. Now we must pay the price . . . I is a case of supply and demand. . The prices on Spring Jackets. Capes, Stoles, etc., are about an same as they have been for the past 12 months. because large manu- fncturers bought . ly at the low prices and still have large quan. tities of pelts on hand. These are being used up very rapidly and mm-. in order to have I stock for next Fall and Winter. the menu. rattturers are having to replace these skins at the new prices. so far as can be ascertained the new prices for next winter will be just about equal to 1953 prices. This is as it should be , , , , 1954 prices were too low and therefore caused shortages. To give you an idea of advances in raw fur prices, we can safely gay that the average increase is about 2596 on the most wanted furs some are higher. others lower. - ' The Island Furriers Ltd. wish to advise the public that the bal- snce of their stock of Fur Coats are still being offered at the clear- ance prices offered in January. This means -a tremendous saving in comparison to next winter's prices. First: Because 1954 prices were so much lower, Second: There is the great clearance discount uttered, Third: The advance in prices for next season. They ad- vise anyone contemplating the purchase of a new Coat to do so now. Ir you do not wish to take delivery at present, your purchase will be held free of charge in cold storage until delivery next Fall. Island Furriers Ltd., now have in stock their new Spring Furs :unsistiniZ of Jackets. Capes. Neckpleces. etc.. priced at 1954 levels. This is possible because being 'on the spot they were able to pur- rhase from manufacturers who and bought heavily on skins early in the season at the 1954 prices. You are invited to make your pur- chase now before this stock of fresh new Spring Furs are sold and lime to be replaced at the new higher prices.
