Mercer Special Speaker At West Devon The cozy and compact Women's Institute flail at West Devon was packed to its very doors on Thursday night, Nov. 25th. with a number of people standing. when Rev. William T. Mercer of Mount. Stewart. Provincial Gov- ernment temperance lecturer. showed some splendid moving pictures dealing with "Temperance." One was "Its The Brain That Counts." another was “A ‘Tower of Strength," a third was a beatiti- ful colored film sponsored by the W.C.'l‘.U. and there xvas also a splendid short feature on “Snow- mobiles." Rev. m. Mercer also delivered a splendid address to the large assembly on the meaning of true temperance. People were pre- sent from Alaska. West Devon Carleton. Coleman, Brae and Derby. There were many children present. All in all. there was an audience of over one hundred and fifty which packed the hall to overflowing. Rev. W. G. Dickson welcomed Rev. Mr. Mercer and the large audience. Previously in the summer Rev. Mr. Mercer had spoken in O‘Leary United Church and had ;hown educational films there for the people of 0'Leary and Bloomfield and the church had been filled. The meeting in the West Devon Hall we; under the sponsorship of the Brae United Church Young People's Union and the West Devon United Church Young People's Union. The collection was divided between the two Y.P.U's and will be used by them to give gifts to the children in their districts at Christmas time. as was the case last year. After the performance. Rev Mr. Mercer pronounced the Benedict- ion. thus bringing to a close a splendid evening of instruction. educational study and fellowship, lending to a larger and fuller un- derstaitdins: of the whole field of temperance education. Rev. Mr. Mercer also distributed to every school teacher present and every Sunday School superintendent and to every minister present. a fine booklet entitled "Alcohol Talks to Youth" by the School and College Sewn-c of Columbus. Albany. has been reported missing from the SS Sunprince. since early Sunday morning, November 21. his parents have been informed. The vessel Wu sailing between George- town. British Guiana and Port of Spain. Trinidad. Mr. Noonsn was a member o! the Royal Canadian Navy for three and a half years during the war seeing most of his action overseas. On receiving his dis- charge in 1945 he joined the merchant marine performing con- tinuous service since that time. Following is the text of the tele- gram received from Saguenay Terminals Ltd: "Mr. and Mrs. Austin Noonan. Albany: "Deeply regret inform you that your eon Ivan Noonan has been missing from on board our vessel SS Sunprtnce sailing between Georgetown, British Guiana and Port of Spain, ‘Trinidad since 0415 hours Sunday. twenty first Novem- ber. Presumably lost overboard. Full details have not been received but will advise you of details as soon as possible. We extend to you our sincere sympathy in this very unfortunate loss." The tragedy has cast a deep gloom over Albany and surround- ing districts where the victim was a general favorite and heart-felt sympathy goes to the bereaved family in their loss. In addition to his parents Mr Noonan is survived by four bro- thers and four sisters. The brothers are Tony. Layton. Norbert, Gerald anti Pat while the sisters are Myrtle. Surnmerslde. in line with their p "cy of keeping their plant modern and efficient. A ccvnplete line of parts is now kept of the various lines o! farm machinery that they manufacture and for which they are distributors. The department is arranged with si'( aisles with steel bins on each s‘. totalling 1600 in all. The bins u‘erc~ manufactured in the Hall plant from material secured from War Assets Ltd. Like any up-to-daie parts department it ha-s a. proper filing system by uneaias of which the numbed’ o! the bin in which any particular part is kept may be found. A stock system by which a record of the parts on hand is kept ls incorporated in the filing system. There is a separate office for the parts department with a private office adiacent in ivhich a buy- er may discuss matters privately with a member of the staff.
