It happened in this wise. Dur- | ing the manoeuvers of 1895 the Emp- | eror had proposed to the War Council of the day that the enemy’s army should be met the next morning with a front attack. This suggestion was energetically opposed by Waldersee, and his objection won the day, bis owr, plan of a flank attack being accepted by the majority of the Council. Here- upon the Emperor refused to under- take any responsibility for the next day’s action, and_ conterded with acting as umpire, The next appeared eailier than usual on the field, but Count Waldersee was betore him, having arisen and aroused his men at two inthe morning and kept them at a long forced march without halting, be:ng certain that if his troo could stand the stiain his plan ati: ck would succeed. Meanwhile the Emperor waited and waited, but there was no sign of Count Waldersee. His Majesty sent an adjutant to summons the General to come. Count Waldesee returned ans-r that he could not come. The E speror then sent a high staff officer with the same command; but he returned with the same%answer. The #querry-in-Chief, Caunc Wedel, was despatched in quest of the recal- citrant General; but the latter remained obdurate despite all remonstrances. Finally General von Hahnke was asked to summons Count Walderseeto the Emperor; his attempt to induce him to come proved likewise fruitless. Shortiy after General von Hahnke had left Count Waldersee, the latter’ troops could be seen appearing in the distance. Then the Count galloped offto the Emperor. His Majesty re- ceived him with a frown. ‘You have kept your Emperor waiting along while,’ he said, Count Waldersee answered very formally thai he had issued instructions to his troops the night before, telling them that he _per- sona'ly should remain the whole day at a certain spot, ready to receive and send out messages; that if he had mov- ed from his post he might have spoiled the whole manoeuvres. The Emperor thanked him and drove off, and no cne was able to have word with him for the rest of the day.—Beriin Correspon Gence ‘London Express.’ himself ee CU-Lprr This signature is on every box of the genuine Laxative Bromo-Quinine tabicts the remedy that cures a cold im one day seminal ~ eink | } t WE ARE AUTHORIZED Tu refnnd the money when Remick’s Kezéma Cure fails to cure any cise of Kezema or Piles, no matter of how long standing. Sir Wilfrid Laurier was foolish and dishonest in his representation at Soh- mer Park of the action cf the Govern- ment in regard tothe troops sent to South Africa. He was back at his old ‘“‘permitted to enlist” position, which is a false one. Tosay that the | Government “permitted” the men who went to South Africa to enlist does not represent the situation. The Government asked men_ to enlist, | appointed officers over them, armed | them, equipped them, provided them \even with ‘‘emergency rations,” hited transports to take them to South Afri- | ca, obtained a grant fom Parliament |; to pay them. It, in effeci, when it saw | how public opinion was shaping, did | its duty. Those who are opposed to | the country’s taking part in the war | will not be deceived by the Premier’s misrepresentation, while those who think that he did right hold him in centempt for his failure to make _ his words as good as his act. Attention has already been called to the extraordinary recoveries from ul- let wounds susta ned during the course of the South Africancampaign which when at first falling under observation, were regarded as fatal. The curious case has just been recorded of ‘froop- er L. A. Palmer, of the Australian Horse, wh~ nearly six months ago was wounded bya Mauser bullet in the head, and atter Stay in various South African hospitals was invalided home to Europe. A few Gays ago in London, at the University Co.l g: Huspital, Mr. Horsley, the well known surgeon, took a Roentgen ray photo- graph of the bullet apparently em- bedded in the brain of the subject, & and succeeded in extracting it. Troop-| er Paliner was fit enough to accompany the colonials in their trip to Windsor, and so far as can be expected he has recovered from his injury. TT TT. The localities in which the herds wili be kept will be designated by the commanding officers of the districts. This proclamation gives g-eat satis- faction to those who are anxious to see the war concluded as it is believed that it will give the coup de grace to the SF5 Boer resistance.
