The most mtiguilicent poultry place. perhaps, that has ever been built, is th it of Lord Pcritliyri. at Wiiiniiigti-ti. III tfliesliirc. It consists of a handsome, regular front, extendirig about 140 feet. at each extremity of tvliich is .1 neat pavilion, with a large arched window. These pavilions are united to the centre of dvsigos by a coloniiaile of small cast iron pillars, painted white, which support acornice, and aslate roof, covering a paved walk, and a variety of different conveniences for the poultry. for keeping eggs, corn, and the like. The doors into these are all of a l«ittice~work, also painted white, and the framing green. In the middle of the front are four liaodsonie stone columns, and four ilnsters. supporting, likwise, a cornice and a slate roof, uo er which, and between the columns is is beautiful mosaic iron gate; on one side of this gate is an elegant little parlour, beautifull papered and furnished, and at the other end ofthe colonna e a very neat kitchen, so excessively clean, and in such high order, that it is delightful to view. The front is the diameter or chord of a large semicircular court hi-liind, round which there is also I colonnade, and it great variety of conveniericvs for poultry. This court is neatly paved, and a circular pond and pump are in the nii.!d!c of it. The itliole fronts towards a rich little paddock. in v-.liivli the poultry have liberty to walk about between meal-t. At one o‘clock a ltt'lI rings, and the beautiful gate is opened. The poultry being then mostlv walking in the padiloclr, and knowing by the mum] oftlie hell that their rcpnst is rcaily for them, tit‘ and run from all quarters, and rush in at the gate, every one striving which can rzct the first share in tho scrariilile. There are about CO0 poultry of ditlorrnt kinds iii the place, and altliough so large a number, the semi-circular court is kept so very neat and clean, that not a speck of i.’uii-.z is to be seen. This poultry place is btti't of brick, except the pillars and corniccs, the hotels and jams of the doors, and the windows, but u bricks are not soon, being all coveted with a remarkable tine kind of slate, from his lordship’s estates in Wales. Tlicse slates are close jointed, and fastened with screw nails or small spurs fitted into the nick: they are afterwards p. intcd, and line white sand thrown on while ilic paint is wet, which gives the whole the appearance of the most beautiful free-stone. Dusrott ran rm: GREAT EXIIIIIITION Burr.nt.\'o A1‘ New Yonir.—/i design by Sir Joseph Paxton, for the intended Exhibition of the Industry of all Nations at New York, was on view, Wednesday, in Clargcs Strect, Piccadilly. The plan is upon a similar principle to that of the Crystal Palace in Ilvile Park, and the materials consist of glass, iron, and slate. The lenttth oftho building is intended to be 600 lect, and the breadth 200 feet. There are two entrances, one at each end, and the construction of tlic door-wri s is somewhat similar to that of the traneept entrance to the Iilxliibition in Hyde-parlr. The roof is to be of slate, in order to resist the weiglit of snow to which it may be exposed in the United States. The structure will be built upon arches, and the galleries will be supported by brackets, which will add materially to the strength of the building and rendcrit better adapted for permanent use that the “ great original " he design is, on the whole, remarkable for its simplicity and practicability, anil is another proof of Sir Joseph Paxton s great skill in this department of art. Fousorrton AND Sooner: or NATIONAL Gitsnrtrtss.-—'f'lie celebrated Ba 'I‘ocQosvtt.Ll: in the following paragraph clearly reveals the cause of American success and intelligence :— It is It the attention it pays to public education, that the original c srscter of American civilisation is placed in its clearest light. Schools were established by law in every township, obliging the inhabitants, under pain of heavy fines, to support them, Schools ofs superior kind, were founded in the same manner in the more populous districts. The municipal authorities were bound to enforce the sending of children to school by their parents; they were empowered to inflict fines ttpon all who refused compliance; and in case of continued resistance, society assumed the place ofthe parent, and deprived the father oftbosu natural rights which he used to so bed a purpose. At this very time (in the year 1650), those principles which were scorned or unknown by the nations of Europe, were proclaimed In the drserts of the New \Vorlil, and were accepted as the future creed of sgreat-people. The boldest theories of the human reason were put into practice by it community sohumble, that not s statesman coiidesoondid to Ittend to it. and a legis- lation without a precedent was produced otf-lisnd by the im- sginstion of the citizens.
