September 25th, 1951, when it became known that Daniel F. Smith, a life-long resi- dent of the district, was accident- ally killed on the road between his home and Vernon. He was in his 79th year. and although not in the best of health for a number of years, was able to a good neighbor and will be missed by all who knew him, but most especially will he be mined in his home, where young and old re- ceived the same hearty welcome. He was a member of st. John's Church, Belfast, also a member of the L. 0. L., Eldon. Left to mourn his passing are his sorrowing widow (formerly Jcnnle MacLeod, Valleydeld); two sons, Finlay A. (Lee) at home; A. Everett, Toronto, who arrived home in time for his father's funeral; and one sister, Annie (Mrs. Angus MacKay) Forest Hill. His funeral service which was very largely attended took place at St. Johiys Church, Belfast, Rev. E. G. Evans conducting the service The pallbearers were: Donald W. There was a private service for members of the family at the Bowness Funeral Home in Sum- merside at 10 a.m. and also at the O'Leary United Church at 2:30 p.m.. which was filled to overflowing. The services were conducted by her Minister. Rev. W. G. Dickson, who brought a message of comfort and consola- tion to the bereaved. Favorite hymns sung were "The Lord”: My Shepherd”. "Lead Kind- ly Light" and "Forever With The Lord". The chair with Mrs. J. M. Macwiiliam as organist led in the ervice of praise. The minister said that Mrs. Matheson was a devoted wife, a kindly mother. a faithfull friend and an earnest follower of the Master.
