This wus, ns it should `j‘be. “Canada and its differulit lwovinccls had alwuys been noted for their loyalty to the flrit- ish Empire and had on all occasions given evidence of their respect to the representative of the King. About s vcnr ago the people of Canada sau' lit to e¥Dl'eHs their loyalty in ii more tnngible form when they voted tlie‘ mm el some elilmy-live million .lol-| lnrs for the building of first-class worships in order to_strcngthen l.lie` New of the Empire; but that nu- WIBH lwdy. the Liberal portion ui the Senate saw lit to veto the lznutter. t thereby bringing on the fair nunlc nl u l‘ d t th sun ii u s sin nt would not be cilsily effacsd, _,AGRICULTURE hlrtv vesrs’ experience that in the' history of the province last season was the most unfavorable to the' maintenance nf roads. These circum-' stances taken into consideration, tlief Government had every relisoli to be flrntifled. 'As soon -ns the snow was of the ground the roadmnsters wero at work with their own men and money and did wonders. He visited the diBlZl‘iCf- and found that thc road-| masters, with very little nid from the Department, had made roads' which wcrc far better than he had anticipated. Under the admin stra-l tion of the Liberal Government, it was ii well known fact, the money; hat the farmers had paid in for the "C'f\LLfBl`tB Of, the province to others was a matter' of supreme difficulty and he spoke| verv forcibly in favor of the estnb- lishment of branch railways. Pffelulef Msthiesnn to approach the Govern- ment at Ottawa in reference to tho matter. MR. J. H. BUNTAIN was the uelt sneaker. I-Ie said that he_had listen- ed with considerable interest and nt- there had been need for that sort of thing, that the beneficial assistance given by the present Government was greatly laporclciatsd by the people themselves, From the increased vot- es made bv ,the Government for* the work, it wus evident that' the educa- tion of the country was being organ- izedin a yay that the people ap- preclsted. Referring to the question of agri- culture.. he miysht sav that some yearn ago when the late Qovernment were sending a ~ few pupils to the Truro college they thought they were doing a wonderful thing for agriculture. and so, perhaps, it was; but when they could educate their own y_oung men at home and get them addicted to their own soil and their own cliim ste, they felt that they could give them e. better education in the line of agriculture than they could -re- ceive at 'l‘i'uro. Under this Govern- ment there had been established long and short courses in svriculture. and courses in domestic science. and they found that in every wav the agricul- ture of the province had advancedin a way that it had never progresssd before. The proposal to establish an ovster mud dredge had been received with the greatest approval bv the farmers of the country and he knew that in his own district of the coun- try the fn.rmers_were hoping that the dsv would soon arrive when s simi- lar dredge would be put to work in their harbour and enable them -to get the mlissefl mud which was so beneficial to their soil. _ The member for Rustico went on to asv tlmfzho could not agree with the hon.
