The Panther Prints January 30, 1996 The MacDonald-Reid ty Ywonne Maken TE VIEW Each year the UPEI Debating Society takes on Holland College in the MacDonald-Reid Debate. The debate is sponsored by UPEI Alumni. The debate follows a slightly different format than the UPEI debaters normally follow. The debate is prepared with the topic agreed upon by both sides in advance, so that some research may be done. Each school alternates in hosting the event, with it taking place at UPEI this year. The UPEI squad has held the title for the last three years and are anxious to continue this streak, On Monday, January 22, there was supposed to be a debate-off to choose who would be representing UPEI, but there was no need, so the event was a practice debate. The resolution for the debate is a Maritime political and economic union is funda- mentally essential for the survival of the Campus Comment by Karen Rawlines 7 How much of the Panther Prints do you actually read? Please come out and support the Maritime provinces. Debating the affirmative were Garry MacDonald and David Saunders, and in opposition were Robert McNevin and Chris Burns. Although the affirmative had some good points, the opposition was given the victory by guest judges David Simms and Henry Srebrnik.
