sor ot the late Rev. John Hall. Dr.
Connell is a brilliant pulpit orator, 31
years old. a Scotchman by birth, ant.
now filling the pulpit of the Regent
Square Prfsbyterian church, London.
The question of Dr. Hall’s successor
was discussed this morning. A pre-
vious meeting of the church session had
decided in favor of Dr. Connell. At a
gathering of the ollicers of the church
this morning it was decided to tender
to Dr. Connell an unconditional call,
after the congregation has votel on the
ma'ter Monday night. Dr. Connell is
believed to be at present in Vancouver,
B. C.. en route to Japan, and- he has
been telegraphed to regarding the call

exch-nge says that Uanadian fruit,
especially apples, is in great demand
in the old countiy, as can be seen
from the action of the Steamship com-
panies who have increased the freight
rate on apples owing to the enormous
rush. The advanceis from ls 9d to 2s
from Montreal to Liverpoo`,and another
increase will be likely made. Both
iriilrv-ad companies as aresult of the
splendid steamship business, are busy
carrying apples from all places in Can-
ada to Montreal.
_The Intercolonial railway has done
away with its divisional fri.-ight office at
St. John, and the agent, Wil a'n Robin-
son. will arrive in Toronto to-morrow
and take a position in the local oflices '
