(C. P. By Guardian‘: Special wire) O'1'rA'WA. June 2—.'i.i’ter what was regarded as a very successful convention members oi the Twen- tieth Century Liberal Association were on their way home today. The convention closed late yestorday with a review 01 the government's accomplishments in alleviation oi unemployment and stimulation ‘oi external trade, by Hon. J. 1. Ilsley, Minister of National Revenue. Saturday morning was spent in discussion of organlmtion matters and resolutions on a wide variety of subjects and cleaned up the work or the two-day convention which opened Friday. Prime Mackenzie King. who Friday night was guest speaker at a banquet of the Association attended reception with delegates given lyy senator Oarrine Wilson. The convention at its final meet- ing dealt with 19 resolutions on varying subjects. Implementation of the report recently made by the Commons special committee on radio at the present session of Parliament was urged in one moved by Odette Lapointe, honoraw vice president and adopted u.mau1m0\l8- ly. Another urged Canada should have power to amend her own con- The convention, however. looked coldly on a proposal the Dominion government should raise money by lotteries and sweepstakes held from time to time in order to contrib- ute to unemployment and health insurance schemes. While urging strongly upon the government in- auguration of a program of social legislation embracing unemploy- ment and health insurance and general superannuation on a. com- pulsory and contributory basis, the convention did not favor sweep- stakes and lotteries as methods for raising funds. An amendment moved by Melville Pearce, of win- nipeg, to delete the lottery and sweepstake provision was approved. and the resolutio as amended carried. The convention look under ad- visement a resolution from the New Brunswick association approving the principle of consumers‘ coop- eration. It asked that iederal and provincial governments "acquaint the people of this Dominion with the economic advantage of volun- tar-y organization in consumers‘ cooperatives." The resolution will be studied. ____.__.___. ROSE VALLEY SCHOOL Grade x—1, Margaret Boulfer. Grade vu—1, Murdena Mathe- son: 2, Eva Chowen. Grade VI—l, Violet Todd; 2, Mary Claw; 3 Lena Mayhew.
