M- G-M has extracted a dramatic story of love and conflict in which Clark Gable and Broderick Craw- ford, two of the screens most rug- ged actors. fall in love with Ava Gardner. fllmdom's most. exciting new star personality. "Lone Star." now showing at the Capitol Theatre. is the epic story of the Texas of more than one-hund- red years ago, days of strife and conquest, when it appeared for a time that there was to be no state of Texas but rather an alien country which would stand be- tween the United States and Mex- ico. it is the story of how a group of brave patriots fought for and won annexation of the area to the Union. It is also 9. love story as untamed as the great outdoors In which it is played; an action story as savage as the six-shooters with which it is played: and a dramatic story as fiery as the characters by whom it is played. As the hard-riding, trigger-quick shooting adventurer. Burke. popu- lar Clark Cable has his most col- orful acting assignment since "Gone with the Wind". and a role which takes him back to that same color- ful era of American history. Ava Gardner teams with Cable for the first time since "The I-luckstors." and comes to her new characterisa- tion as a crusading newspaper owner from her recent smash hits in "show Boat" and "Pandora and the Flying Dutchman." The acad- emy Award-winning Broderick Crawford ("All the King's Men” and "Born Yesterday") makes his first M-Cw-M appearance in "Lone Star" as Gables implacable enemy and the bitter foe of annexation.
