With his lanky body, short bullet-shaped head, two great bulging eyes and four long stragg- ling wings he.looks like nothing else in the world. And, as we see him clinging to a twig or a blade ol sedge mar the water, turning his head andgreat eyes about hungri‘y there is no beauty we should desire of ' ‘m. But Nature does not bestow all her gifts on one creature. Though the dragon-fly may not be a hund- some fellow, he ls certainly a mas- terful and eflicient insect. As we 5 -watch him at rest we cannot help feeling that he is keenly alert to all that is going on about. him. Should you approach him, you will find that he is well aware of his danger and is gone in a twinkling. Nor does he seem afraid, for next 2:1- stant he is back and hovering in mid-air as though to tempt you to snatch at him. When at rest his dong gauzy wings seem to be a hit cumber- whi:h beetles and bugs dispose of‘ theirs. But once in the air t-iie dragon-fly shows us that. he l; a past-master in the art of flight. ; His appearance on the wing sug- , gcsls an aeroplane.
