Prince Edward Is1and’s summer climate
is delightful, and scenery is beautiful and
quietly picturesque. Surrounded by the
Gulf of St. Lawrence, it enjoys all the
coolness of the sea breeze and the advant-
ages that can only be derived from sea
bathing at about 63 degrees.
Charlottetown has over 12,000 inhabit-
ants, and is the capital. It has many
great retail stores, besides a large whole-
sale trade. It has a Gas Light and Power
Company two Electric light-1 plants, and
a street railway is in embryo. It has a `
iirst class water works and sewerage sys
tem. It isfamed for its many pleasant
drives the principal-ot which is the new
Park Boulevard, its attractive surround-
ings, pure water and clear cool and brac-
ing air. It is widely known as one of the
healthiest cities in Canada. Ithas two
hospitals, m-my churches and a large and
eral line public buildings and a market
which is one of the chief resorts of the
citizens here. It has one ot the largest 1
and best equipped pork-packing establish
ments in the Dominion. On the west ,
sides in the Park; on the east side are the
magnicent new Exhibition Building
and Driving Park. Chief among itspub-
lic squares are Queen Square in the centre p
of the city, beautifully lsi-lou: with bloom
ing plants or everydescription, afountain~
and well arranged walks. and enlivensd
with a. band ot music during the summer ,
evenings. The rural scenery in t.he vicin-
of Charlottetown is charming, and horses ‘
for driving are abundant at very low ,
prices. Boats can also  hired, and
steamers run regularly on the bays and
rivers, aifording most pleasant excursions. 1
The principal hotels are Davies, Queen,
and Revere.

It has the largest and lincst departmental
\store in the Maritime Provinces, besides

With my last I closed with the opening 3
of the school. Since then the enrollment
has increase rapidly; at present the num-
ber is 330. ~'

to teach Botany than that which usually
obtains viz:-the following of some text-
book, and teaching an assigned lesson
of so many pages. With rpeclmens in
the hands of the class, the different root-
forms were examined and explained. Root
functions were dealt with and any
member attending the class could not tail
to have an increased interest in plant life,
and any teacher who attended must be e
more intelligent and enthasiastic teacher
of the subject of Botany. ~
In the afternoon, on the invitation of
Mr. J. J.Rudolf a number of the school
enyoys a delightful yacht sail on the har-
bour. ‘
Dr, Halliday of Shubenecadie, Provin-
cial Bacterloleogist lectured on Sanitation.
In clear and convincing terms he showed
the necessity of better ventilation ln our
homes and schoolhouscs. '
