I was carefully brought up, and the only reason I can account for my action is that I deeply love the man. who is 18 years older than I. I am 24. Of course I would like a home, but have I the right to accept the proposal of this young man? Also, how can I leave my married friend when my whole life centers around him? sf FRIEDA ANSWER: Some people, they say, like to have their cake and eat it too. You, Frieda. apparently would like, in addition, to have bread pudding from the crumbs, while at the same time saving some for a rainy day. You certainly have no concern with the mess you blithely make of other. people's lives. You have just about ruined your own. can lngenuously contemplate the wreck you are making of a man's marriage, and then plan on destroying a young man's faith in life just because the thought of a home appeals to you! The gravest injustice you could commit would be to marry one .man while still in love with another. That is the fact you should emphasize to your young friend. Whether you reveal the secret of the past: six years or not is secondary; you don't love him--tell him so! Be honest at least once in your life.
